What Students Say
Likes
- Senior Mentors and Faculties with average experience over 15 years
- Affordable fees and charges much less as compared to other institutions
- Very safe with zero ragging and tolerance to nuisance within college premises
Dislikes
- Placement opportunities are limited for Energy , Health and Environment Management courses
- Almost zero college tours and internships
- Old school way of marking exams and thus the results of similar students across other institutes seems much brighter to IISWBM
Course Curriculum Overview
The curricullam is divided into 4 semesters spread among two years , the first and the second semester have general management subjects like HR, Operations , Marketing, Accounts, the remaining two semesters are mostly on specilisations of Energy, TLM , Environment, Health care
Placement Experience
The placements are very average almost zero internship opportunites are available. Placement cell is very well for associated management courses other than marketing and transport logistics which has much more defined placements. Out of three interviews I was offered I got placed in the first one that is JPDEPC and was not allowed to sit for further placement drives after that
Fees and Financial Aid
It was a good expeirence studying at IISWBM with General Business and Energy Management as a specilisation , the two years were filled with a lot fo good learning experience from senior faculties. The college is strict in timings , attendance and uses innovative methods for enhanced learning. Being the oldest management college of the country the faculites are very senior and have indepth knowledge of the curicullam. The courses are certified by Calcutta University , however being an autonomous body IISWBM takes care of all the aspects from making questions to conducting test. In terms of placement being a old school kind of a college there is not much stress to placements atleast till 2017. The other departments including marketing , transport and logistics have better placement as compared to other streams. Overall is it is a good expeirence learning and growing at IISWBM
Campus Life
The campus life is good zero ragging , the college canteen was good with articles not at all costly and affordable . There was no as such campus life as it was a very quite institute with almost no playgrounds , no tennis courts so do not expect anything fancy . However the class rooms do have air condition and are a relief for the hot summer in Calcutta
Admission
The best part of this insititute is the legacy that it carries being the oldest management institute of the country it aims to keep upto its reputation. The courses are extremely affordable with minimal additional cost other than you opt in for hostels and other things. The college is also average in terms of placement . While I did I apply for other institutes and got through the GD/ PI , being a part of a government run institution was always in mind so had to opt for IISWBM over its competitors
Faculty
The faculties are one of the best part of IISWBM . Our department head Binoy Krishna Chaudhuri is a very senior professional with over 30 years of experience in management especially Energy Management . He is an AEE centre head of our time and the courses are in sync national bodies like AEE , IEEE etc. The college generally starts sharp at 9 AM and the attendance is very strict unless you have over 75% of attendance there is no way you will be allowed to sit for the exams other than special request in case of medical exigencies . Now coming to examination , every paper of of 100 marks with 80 marks on written and 20 marks on internal . The internals are generally carried out just before the exams. The exams generally consists of 5 broad questions each marked at 15 marks each and remaining 15 marks is on MCQ . The time for writing the papers is three hours and every time it is home centre only with our facluties being the invigilator . If someone is looking to make a career from this institute it is suggested go for marketing or transport and logistics management as they give the best placement and have finest faculties who look deeply into student well being.
Interview Experience
Yes we did have GD and Personal interview which was conducted by a panel headed by the dean of the insitute Mr KM Agarwalla sir . The process includes application followed by GD session and a one to one PI session . Mat score or Cat score is compulsory .
