Likes
- I liked the campus vibe, no ragging everyone is friendly here
- Professors are super helpful, if you reach them they are willing to help you every time
- Events at every festival and every special occasion unites TISS. People from all courses play and celebrate together. No gender, no disability and no caste or religion discrimination at all.
Dislikes
- Campus doesn't have much facilities like a playground, swimming pool and even no encouragement from institute management for sports
Course Curriculum Overview
I liked entrepreneurship a lot and we have a lot of good entrepreneurs coming out from this course so I chose this course. Please choose this course only if you are interested in entrepreneurship. I would say they can improve more experiential learning rather than theoretical learnings. Exams aren't really difficult, but they are taken very often but you are informed there is no surprise tests.
Placement Experience
Placements depends on course to course, ODCL and HRM have the best placements of average 30 LPA. If you are serious student and work hard you will surely be placed. My plan is to start my own venture.
Fees and Financial Aid
As for now I have 51000 for the first semester tution fee in which 10000 is refundable at the end of 2 years of course, from 2nd semester onwards the fees will decrease to around 45k for semester. I have paid 38000 for a semester accommodation at TISS(18000 for accomodation and 20000 for Dining hall fees) 20000 for DH is not finalized if your account remians then it will be adjusted to next sem, Mumbai which is very fair looking at rent you have to pay if you stay outside campus.
Campus Life
Many events like i-preneur, Manthan happen. Everything is run by internet. No sports and extracurricular activities. There is a group called PSF which works for student welfare. Overall campus vibe is good.
Hostel Facilities
Clean Washrooms, good rooms, 24hrs electricity, wifi and meal quality is good people from north might struggle initially but everything is overall good. Some room for improvement also persist, registration for hostel is simple first preference is given to minorities then the general category people who have income less than 200000 per annum. Affordability is super cheap looking at the rent rates outside campus.
Admission
I had admission offers from SIBM Bangalore, LBSIM Delhi, IMT Nagpur and some tier 3 business schools. But I chose TISS because they have good branding and overall it aligns better with my goals of starting my own venture rather than learning how to work in a corporate culture. I got rejection from IIM Kozhikode, NIBM Pune, SIBM Pune, NMIMS Mumbai and some New IIMs. Admission process is rigorous you have to appear for CAT/CUET for getting the online assessment (GDPI) call, you have to fill DAF form (very important thing) on the basis of your overall score of GDPI and entrance exam you will get your names in admission list. PI is hard to crack.
Faculty
There is 1:20 ratio of faculty and students respectively, faculties are very approachable and helpful. I personally likes professor Bharat Damani who teaches us Accounting and Financial Management and proffesor Satyajith Majumdar very strict and have a aura in his personality both very knowledgeable and always give experiential knowledge. I didn't like some faculties because they have a great knowledge but they don't know how to teach (I prefer not to say names) and some biasness they have towards students who are extroverts. There is some midterm exams, assignments, field work and semseter exams all these things combined decide your overall performance. TISS students do not really fail, as we are given a lot to read but I would say 3-4 students are not able to complete course in each course. Course curriculum is good we have field works, we learn from real entrepreneurs, we have our own incubation centre in the second sem we have to start our own pilot venture after doing immersions.
Interview Experience
Interview and GD question is related mostly to your course in my case there was a case of a business failure in which we had to discuss that what would we do in this situation. They check your GK knowledge a lot and overall grill you on why TISS and why this course.
