What Students Say
Likes
- Girls to boys ratio was almost 25:40, in my batch. Some of the faculties who are specialised in the subject were really great and knowledgeable
- The research Centers present and COE were really helpful for paper publications , also useful for Higher studies students as research papers add more value
Dislikes
- Small campus, when compared to many of the engg colleges
- Not much of importance to sports, so sportspeople cannot improve their skills in this college as they focus on academics maximum
- Some faculties were bad and harsh, did not understand the pace of others students understanding
Course Curriculum Overview
I had interest in computer science, when I was studying in school, which made me take this course. There wasn't anything special that made me choose CSE in CIT They followed the 2K17 regulation of Anna university syllabus, which was very well covered theoretically, but when coming to practical knowledge, there wasn't much covered in the class. The practical knowledge in this course was covered at lab section, which was a part of AU syllabus, which was average. The frequency of exams was 6 tests in every 2 weeks, that is in the first week the subject is taught well , ie first chapter of every subject is almost covered within 10 days and test in conducted on them and reviewed. Retests are conducted if the marks are not Upto standards. The difficulty level is easy as 4-8 Questions are given and asked in the exam, following this we have IA, which comes once in every 1.5months and then UPC, which is very hard and 2 weeks before model, and finally model, revision and sem, which are moderat
Internships Opportunities
Intern is now made compulsory, but in my batch it was not, and only few students did intern. Internship was done by placed students in their respective placed company. Other than that students are given sometime to do intern after their 2nd year and review of the knowledge learnt is to be presented in a paper. Coming to projects, students have to put in their own effort to do more projects and apps, to get placed at better companies and improve knowledge other than academic time, which is hard to balance. With the fact that college is located far away from main areas of Chennai makes it devastating and draining, to do other work. Projects are done by students generally based on AU portion which is the mini project and final year project. Other than that if students want to attend interview they do more projects on their own and with help of faculties to excel and get chances to be placed!
Placement Experience
Students, based on their interest and skills can start getting placed from 2year/3rd semester and get into internships to many companies on various domains, but only a few could make it. The training for placement starts at 2nd year end and campus interviews begin at 3rd year/5th sem or 6th sem and based on your skills and cgpa, u are allowed for the interview. The highest package was 44LPA, which he got into by his own effort, but based on the offerings of our college, the highest package was 20LPA. The average package was 5LPA, and lowest being 3.6LPA to the final and remaining students. Almost all of the students get placed in some company , in decent package of 4LPA, and based on their skills and efforts, get placed above. Special training is provided to students based on their cgpa and their request to get help from training department. I don't have much knowledge on training department as I choose higher studies and was moved into COE to publish research papers.
Fees and Financial Aid
As a management quota student,Yearly fee structure of BE.CSE was 1.3L/year which includes bus fees and academic fee. Other than that there were exam fees, which costed around 6k/sem and miscellaneous fees around 1k, and paper fees around 1k per semester! For those who got into CIT thru government quota, had fee structure of 35k/ year and some of them had free who were from other states such as J&K, government provided complete funding for them. Few of the students got scholarship from charities and college provided decent scholarship schemes
Campus Life
The campus life now at CIT is far much better, than my batch. Will surely say that things have changed from before and more events and OD are given to students to go to other colleges and attend events. During my college time, the colleg was very strict and OD was never almost never given to Cse students, making things boring and only focus was on academics. CIT has a big library but the books are old and I haven't explored much and no new books were visible to my bare eyes. Library was accessible all the time but only few students use it. Coming to extracurricular activities, being a sportsperson it was very hard here. They don't care much and give importance to sports and only focus is on academics. OD is given sometimes and only if marks are good, else no support. No extra time or space is given for preparation before events etc.2 days before the sports day events are conducted and rushed and the prizes are given, no rest day too. Another drawback of CIT was the small infrastructure
Admission
I applied to SSN apart from CIT, but from counselling and fee structure, CIT was more preferable making it cheaper and hence choose CIT. Also I dint get CSE course at SSN and hence went into CIT. The cut-off for CSE at SSN college was very much higher and their entrance exam was hard to crack, making it not possible to get into there. I was only able to choose between ECE,EEE and Chemical and not IT and CSE, which was my interest. The admission process is similar and payment can be done in 2-3 payments , and fine is to be paid if payment is delayed and not allowed to write exams. 12th CBSE exam and JEE scores were considered for getting into CIT, although mainly 12th exam marks, and the cut-off
Faculty
There are more no. of students at CSE while the other departments have 50% less students. Here, we don't have the choice to choose the open elective course and is pre-picked by the college and made to study them There are great faculties dedicated to the subject such as Kiruba sir, and maths sir who have amazing knowledge on the subject and teach the subject with love and passion making it interesting! But the ones with passion towards teaching and subject are less compared to those of normal faculties. There are also some rude faculties , and they treat different students in a different way and don't teach them properly and downgrade them. There are usual exams like in all colleges, which is the IA, Model,Revision and semester exam, and CIT has an additional exam of daily test which are used in evaluating and also have UPC exams which are new, where students are pressurised to cover the entire subject in 2 weeks, which is bad and challenging to many, only few will be able to manage
