Gitam University: A balanced educational journey

I rate the curriculum in terms of relevance: 8/10 The curriculum is designed to be industry-relevant, especially in technical fields like computer science engineering. It covers essential modern subjects like AIML, data science etc. the inclusion of elective subjects allows students to tailor their education based on specific interests or career goals. GITAM regularly updates its syllabus to reflect the latest industry trends and technologies, helping students remain competitive in the job market. It provides a strong foundation for students aiming to either enter the work force or pursue further studies. Overall GITAM university's curriculum is relevant and comprehensive, especially for student's looking to enter tech industry. It has a manageable exam difficulty and a well rounded curriculum.

Gitam offers a wide range of internship opportunities through its strong industry connections and active placement cell. Several reputed companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Deloitte, Amazon provide internships with stipends ranging from around ?10,000 to ?30,000 per month for technical roles and around ?15,000 to ?40,000 for management internships. These internships not only offer hands-on experience but also often lead to pre-placement offers.

Students at Gitam university become eligible for campus placements starting in their 7th semester(i.e., during their 4th year). Companies typically begin visiting the campus for recruitment from the beginning of the final year. Gitam has a robust placement cell by hat attracts top companies like 1. TCS 2. Wipro 3. Infosys 4. Accenture 5. Cognizant 6. Tech Mahindra 7. Amazon 8. Deloitte 9.IBM On average companies make around 200+ offers for the cse stream every year. Highest package for B.Tech CSE students at GITAM university reached up to ?46 LPA in recent years, offered by companies like Amazon and Microsoft. Average package offered falls in the range of ?5-7 LPA. Profiles offered are mostly software development, full stack development, IT consulting, cloud computing, cybersecurity, business analyst and technical support and it services etc. 85-90% of students secure placements by the end of placements season. My plan after degree is to pursue higher studies.

At GITAM University, Visakhapatnam, the B.tech program has a fee structure that varies slightly depending on the year of entry. Fee structure(approximately): Tuition fees 1st year maybe be around ?3,60,000 and for 2nd year around ?3,80,000. For 3rd year around ?4,00,00 0and 4th years around ?4,20,000 which include the development fee and lab fee. Fee variation by category: Management Quota students generally pay a higher fee. For any reservation categories, there maybe discounts or scholarships as available, depending on the student's merit and financial need. Scholarships: 1. Merit based scholarship: high performing students in GITAM Admission Test(GAT), JEE, or AP/TS EAMCET are eligible for fee concessions based on their ranks. 2.Need based scholarship: given to students who demonstrate financial need. 3. Sports scholarship: Available for students excelling in sports. 4. Employee children scholarship: the children of GITAM employees can get scholarships.

One of the major highlights of life in Gitam is its wide array of annual and technical festivals, which not only promote cultural diversity but also encourage student participation. These bring students together from different backgrounds to engage in a mix of creative and cultural performances. Music, dance, theatre, fashion shows, and various talent shows fill the events with life. GITAM university places a strong emphasis on academic rigor, and it's knowledge resource centre(KRC) is testament to that. The library boasts about a wide range books, journals and research papers. The library is designed to meet modern standards with digital reading rooms and online database. The university prioritises offering a comfortable and conducive academic environment. The classrooms are spacious and air-conditioned. There are well equipped computer labs. Gitam encourages students to maintain a balance between academic and physical well being by providing excellent sports facilities.

I applied to SRM, VIT and GITAM (Visakhapatnam). Why I choose Gitam over SRM or VIT is because RV one major reason is proximity to home. Being able to stay closer to home was advantageous for me in term am of both cost savings and convenience of staying connected to family. This was particularly appealing when compared to relocating to another place which would u as e required adjustments including managing living expenses. SRM and VIT are both located far bb rom Vizag making frequent visits home more difficult. The other reason o choose GITAM was its strong reputation in Vizag for computer science and engineering and also its campus life am d infrastructure. Although VIT and SRM are known for their modern campuses, I found GITAM's infrastructure to be more than sufficient for my needs. The fee structure at Gitam is more affordable compared to others considering expenses like hostel accommodation. Also i couldn't secure admission into SRM as my rank didn't meet the cuttoff.

The faculty-to-students ratio is quite good which allows for a more personalized teaching experience. This ensures that students receive adequate attention, particularly in practical and project based courses. Faculty members are generally approachable and encourage students to participate in research activities. They often help with project guidance, academic queries and even career advice. The relationship between students and faculty is collaborative. While most professors are approachable, a few might seem a bit more formal but they still provide the necessary academic support. Course structure: The B.Tech CSE program at GITAM follows a semester-based system. Each semester lasts for about six months, during which students need to complete a mix of core subjects and electives. Each semester has 1-2 mids and final end semester exam. In addition to these, there are lab assessments, assignments, quizzes and project evaluations. The exams are moderately difficult.
