Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course will make you a MBBS graduate , a doctor. It aims to make you gain sufficient knowledge in every aspect and tests you accordingly each year. The teaching methods are just enough comprising both theory and practical. The difficulty level is internal exams are set by the own departments so it varies from college to college. The final university exam ain't very difficult, you'll pass if you study. As simple as that. It's just enough difficulty, i would say moderate.

Internships Opportunities

4

The curriculum expects the students to pursue a 1 year period of compulsory internship in the college and hospitals they studied. We sign that bond during admission into college. Failing which degree will not be granted by the university. It's is critically essential to gain real world experience and practice so that we become good doctors and trained professionals that can help and provide service in times of emergency. The duration of internship varies from universities. The private and deemed universities have their own period of internship.

Fees and Financial Aid

So this is a government run medical college so the standard per annum fees is Rs.13,000 and for SC/ST reservation the fees is reduced to Rs.9000. For the students of government school the state of Tamil Nadu has a special reservation that allows the Government to pay both the hostel and tuition fees.PwD also have a reservation but I'm not sure of what it is.Also there are scholarships for SC/ST students and many other scholarships that offers to pay the fees.Exclusing the tuition fees we are required to pay around Rs.11,000 every year for the final university exam. The hostel fees is paid monthly and it depends on what you eat in the hostel so it varies from person to person, but everybody gets around Rs.5000 per month as their bill.

Campus Life

4.5

There are numerous clubs in our college such as the dance, fashion, sports, literary, music, arts and editing and more. Events are held right from August month usually. Stanlea for intercollege sports and euphoria for culturals and tamilmandram which is a local tamil festival, empower for academics and much more. Ask kinds of sports are played in our college and have their own teams that participate in various other college events and has won numerous prizes. Stanley is known for its extrordinary sports performance.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel is government run and is only average in infrastructure. You get only the basics. The cleanliness is average. All the buildings are old and need renovation which is currently being carried out. The bathrooms are common. We have a common dining area. The food is pretty good as it is a student's run mess and not contract. The hostel has a gym, a library, a study room, a recreation room and WiFi. The locality isn't good for renting or PG so if you want to do that you'll have to go to a nearby location.

Admission

I applied to Madras medical college and the AIIMS and JIPMER institutes. I also applied and studied for a few weeks at Madurai medical college but i got transferred to stanley medical college because madurai is my hometown and i wanted a change of location and for my marks i could only get into Stanley. I didn't have the marks to join in Madras medical college or AIIMS and JIPMER. The admission to medical colleges in India is based on your NEET scores and I joined my college through the state counselling.

Faculty

4

So the faculty to student ratio is adequate. Each department has their own HOD, professors, assistant and associate professors, tutors and post graduates. All of them teach us so the ratio is sufficient. There are friendly and strict faculties in ask the department we just have to know how to behave to each of them which i think comes with experience. Most HODs are strict and expect discipline. Each year we will have an university exam that declares us pass or fail and will tell us whether we'll move on to the next year. Through out the year the departments contact l conduct their own internal assessments and practicals also. The final university exam at the eve l end of each year has a theory and practical part which will be conducted by externals. Those who pass the finals will move to next year and those who failed can write supplementary exams and pass and join with their batch but if they fail the supplementary exam too then they'll have to join the next junior batch.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It deals with patient care and clinical diagnosis along with hands on training the influenced my decision to take up this course. Through ward postings, history taking and case discussion it prepares me well for my PG exams and further future pursuits. Skill based learning should be emphasised more along with small group teaching. Sometimes the close spacing of exams can be very stressful. Difficulty level is appropriate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the course is very challenging obviously as we're studying to become doctors. it could've been better by increasing the duration of the course. our first year/ semester instead of it being for 12 months was only of 9-10 months so our portions are being pushed a little. it happened due the scam etc around neet and our course start date was pushed. the course could be made easier by increasing the duration of the course. we have exams every week which does make it easier to keep up with the portions but makes it too stressful for us. maybe instead of keeping exams on monday they could change it to saturday so we can relax and be free on sundays.
