Course Curriculum Overview
The course allows you to delve into all sub themes of psychology which made me choose the college. A lot of importance is given to practical learning which is highly rare in indian colleges. Internship opportunities are provided in the second year. The teachers have an overall good teaching standard except for a few visiting faculty, but constructive feedback is highly appreciated with them. The course is difficult and rigorous and requires constant learning.
Internships Opportunities
There are opportunities with various NGOs and hospitals, they just help you connect , rest all is based on merit and interviews. There aren't many available though in comparison to the student intake .
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is 1,75,000 rupees for a year , which is increasing every year by 10-15 thousand. It is lower compared to the other other fees that are charged by NMIMS for other courses but compared to government institutes it's still higher, Jai Hind has around 8000 fee comparatively but NMIMS gives an option to get a Bachelor of Science degree. No scholarships were offered.
Campus Life
The course offers for you to be a part of Psychology Committee with more than 10 sub departments. It hosts psychology related cultural fests like the Psych Film Festival and The mental health awareness week amongst many more. It has also inaugurated an all new sports committee.
Admission
I got confirmation from Jai Hind College but decided not to go because I would get a Science degree from NMIMS. The reputation of the college itself influenced my decision as well. The admission process starts around april, an application fee of 3000 rupees allows you to sit for an entrance exam specifically for BSc psychology. The exam is online and is fairly easy . The cutoff rates aren't disclosed for the same.
Faculty
The faculty members are highly approachable and nice overall, but the non-permanent staff is very young and inexperienced, sometimes they are fresh graduates of the masters course of NMIMS. They take time to learn and develop skills and sometimes seem lost. Most of the students pass the exams and usually people who do not meet the attendance criteria are failed . the course is highly relevant to the curriculum.
Other Applied Colleges
Jai Hind College - [JHC] | BA
Better opportunities were available in NMIMS with a science degree instead of arts in psychology
