What Students Say?
Likes
- I really like the way are taught ; like the introducing us to the practical aspects of medical, be it like taking us to field visits , regular dissection lectures or frequent tests.
- The authority and administratives are really concerned about the students performance. They frequently conduct one-on-one parent teacher meetings based on the exam results.
Dislikes
- My college is located on the peripheral part of the city . So you might feel a little as there are not many things to do near the campus . Though there are many good places in couple of hours drive away from the city that can keep you entertained.
- The campus is pretty small. So you might not be able to hang around the campus alott.
Course Curriculum Overview
The only thing that inspires me to go on despite of all the burn outs is the course curriculum. I'm absolutely in love with the course. It's sometime overwhelming that we're gonna deal with the human body tho and the way they teach us specifically the practical part of dealing with patients. Because of the affordable health care provision the patient load in our hospital is pretty good. Hence we get to learn about a lot of cases . Though I consider the learning part to be really good. I feel like there is a need of a better infrastructure in the college . The labs need to be more updated with more advanced equipments . The hostel food menu needs an upgrade too ;-(
Internships Opportunities
Well In our course that is MBBS , students from every college are hired as interns in the hospital attached to it for a year after they complete the course. So, we're posted in the hospital for a year . Where they gives us opportunity to work in different wards on rotation basis. It's the time when we get actually used to the and exposed to the real aspect of medicine. It's quite a leading tbh . Tho we get to learn alott; the interns are also paid some out as stiped . We get paid 15k per month during the internship . It's quite more in other collages tho . We're also demanding for a better package during this period . Things might get better in future.
Fees and Financial Aid
Hi everyone ! I'm a second year Medical student of Hi-tech medical College and hospital, Bhubaneswar. It's a semi- goverment medical College. The year wise tution fees of my college is 6,50,00/-. With additional of 15,000/- for transportation fees 15,000/- for sports n 15,000/- for cultural society fees. Which sums up to 6,95,000/- p.a. My college also provides hostel facility that costs total of 1,00,000/- per year . Though there ain't any specific scholarship programs that benefit the students here but students can apply to various government or charity based scholarships. My college is known as reputed medical college because of its amazing service with affordable price point and also the affordable fee structure for middle class students who couldn't crack into a government medical College because of just few marks . The admission process is carried on under the state counsil called OJEE.
Campus Life
Well you gotta study a lot in MBBS . This course demands a lot of efforts. Considering the level of competition exists here people study really hard here. Tho most people in my college are "geeks" but they ain't "nerds". So we gotta maintain that balance between everything . The annual cultural fest named "PLEXUS" is organised every year . It's a 4-5 days event , that comprises of star nights , all night DJ's, numerous competitions , cultural n literature activities. Those are days that we truly live for. We also celebrate Ganesh puja, Saraswati Puja , Holi n many more festivels. They Holi in the campus is really really fun . The student committee also organises Halloween every year . The college have a very beautiful n asthetic library. That's open 9am-9pm for students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel kinda sucks tho but I bet the hostel life doesn't. Well I was quite shocked to see the hostel when I visited for the first time . So, the students are provided with a three seater room for the total course . You can choose AC or NON-AC based on your preferences. I feel like the rooms could be a little bigger tho but I feel like attached washroom is a compensation for it. Talking about the mess food ..well it's a disaster. The breakfast is kinda good , the lunch is edible , the evening snacks as well BUT the dinner absolutely suckkss. I hate to an extent that I've stopped having dinner in the mess. The cafeteria in the campus have really been a saviour at this situation. Tho I keep stuffing myself in junkfood but it feeds me well :-)
Admission
I had also applied for Sri Jagannath Medical College , Puri. As it's a good college which is couple of hours away from my hometown. But as that college is government it has a high cut-off that I couldn't qualify in order to get admission in it. Then my second preference was Hi-tech Medical College and Hospital. This college is few kms away from my home . So I knew the college quite well. So, i decided to get admission into it . The admission process was quite smooth tho. I submitted my application form in the OJEE office . Then I got my admission letter from there that I submitted in the college. Nd fast forward to that my classess starter with in few weeks .
Faculty
The faculty student ratio is 1:30. Which i personally feel could improve in order to provide better guidance and mentorship. The faculties of the college is pretty much approachable tho . The dept. of anatomy and dept. of microbiology is my personal favourite till now . They gonna make you learn every thing at your fingertips with your cooperation. The vice principal of the college Dr. Lisa Sarangi (HOD OF DEPT. COMMUNITY MEDICINE)is everyone's darling. She's so student friendly yet strict at the same time. She's so amiable that students feel free to share about their love life with her. There are two internal examinations and one annual university exam occurred per year. The question paper is pretty much relevant that prepared you nicely for the course.
