What Students Say
Likes
- Placements are very good compared to other NITs and colleges. For 2024 batch, placement percentage was around 90% despite hiring freezes and recession.
- Hostels are really good, giving single rooms from 2nd year onwards for boys. Also new hostels have been built recently, adding more to the already decent no. of hostels. Also wifi is available in hostels and lecture hall complex, lan facility as well
- Highly competitive environment for students and really awesome coding culture which is very well reflected on the placements and various competitions. It's also a great place for core interested students
Dislikes
- Labs weren't well built during my time, though they have started renovating them lately and is likely to improve.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of my branch involves a lot of subjects along with computers science as well, in order to prepare students for software roles. The frequency and timing of exams are normal and gap between exams is fairly distributed throughout the course work. There are certain subject which can be omitted to reduce the burden on students, especially for the ones in penultimate year, as they also have to prepare for upcoming placement season.
Internships Opportunities
A lot of company come for internships in both software domain as well as core domain. Some notable names are Atlassian, BNY Mellon, Texas Instruments, Google's, etc. In core companies like Tata Steel, JSL, jspl, jsw come for internships. Students also have the option of doing a project under a professor. Also college has tie ups with various industries in order to provide students with intership opportunities
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from 7th semester onwards. A good number of MNCs is visit including Google, Rubrik, Uipath, Microsoft, Atlassian, etc. Highest package is 1.23 crores pa and average is 10 LPA. The percentage of students getting place last season was a 90% which is a very good percentage compared to other NITs. After getting a degree I look to join a decent software company, where I can use my skills to grow in the company
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees is quiet decent compared to other colleges and way lower than the private ones. There is also provision for remission, subject to fulfillment of certain economic criteria, granting 1/3 or 2/3 depending upon family income. For the ones paying full fees, fees per year is around 216000 rupees. Also there are n no. of scholarship schemes like ekalyan, pmss, etc.
Campus Life
Aur college boasts a number of technical and cultural fests. The the major fests being culfest, ojass and urja. Urja is our annual sports fest, wheras culfest and ojass are cultural and technical fests respectively. Our college has good infrastructure for sports as well as club activities. There are also a number of student run clubs and social groups for helping the growth of students.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel Facility is really good compared to other NITs. For first years each room is alloted to two candidates. Where as from 2nd year onwards each candidate gets a single room. As for facilities are concerned, everything is provided. Registrations are carried out for every semester. Mess food is quiet decent compared to other colleges, but still needs a lot of improvement.
Admission
I had to give jee main and had a rank around 20000 to get into NIT Jamshedpur Electrical Engineering. I am a general candidate. As for admission, it's among one of the colleges in Josaa counseling, via which students get admitted into IITs, IIITs, NITs and othe GFTIs. Difficulty level of jee mains in intermediate and jee advanced is very tough.
Faculty
Calculating from the total no. of students in a branch and no. of professors, faculty to student ratio is 1 : 20 approx. Almost every faculty is highly knowledgeable and have lots of experience in the field of teaching. Also they are very much approachable and also play a key role in helping the students with placement preparation besides teaching. The academics, though, are quiet hectic, especially for certain branches where there are 7-8 subjects even in 3rd year, when one is supposed to prepare for placements.
