Nirmala College Muvattupuzha - A Good Campus

I choosed MCA at Nirmala College due to several reasons: • It is a course which is open to anyone who has passed any bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% and above. The only prerequisite is that one need to attend the annual LBS MCA entrance examination to secure admission to this course. • The syllabus of MCA in this college is affiliated with that of MG University, Kottayam. It is a vast syllabus covering various applications of computer science including programming in various languages such as C, Java, PHP, Python, data structures, algorithms, statistics, data mining, machine learning, software engineering, networking, etc. • The course is theoretically good but practically it doesn't really equip all students with enough knowledge and understanding to be placed in a good IT company. Some portions could be excluded from various theory subjects such as Networking with TCp/Ip and Algorithms Analysis.

The tuition fees for MCA course is affordable, totalling just around 1 lakh over the course of 2 years and 4 semesters. Plus if we take into account the initial admission fees, special fees and examination fees each semester, an individual can complete this course with a budget of around 1.5lakh Rs. The college encourages students to participate in all kinds of state level and central level scholarships.

The campus life of the college is very good. It is relaxed and not overwhelming or stressful in any means. They really try to make students disciplined by concentrating much more to the academic side rather than other extracurricular activities. Political activities are strictly banned inside the campus. One of my major criticism is that sports is not encouraged enough in the campus. Also, the students studying in undergraduate courses (except B.Pharm) are encouraged, given time and support to take part in art fests and other cultural fests. Those students interested can take part in National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Council (NCC) whose undertakings are well organised and disciplined.

The admission for MCA course is based on a Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) conducted by the LBS institute of Science & Technology, a govt. of Kerala undertaking. There are 60 merit seats and 60 management seats in the college for this course. Everyone is recommended to attend the LBS examination even if they are planning to secure seat in Management quota. However, the fee structure for both the merit and management quota will be the same. Eligibility for the admission to this course: Nativity - The candidate must be an Indian citizen Academic - The candidate must secure 50% or more (general category), 45% or more (reserved category) in the qualifying bachelor's degree examination. Our college has over 3000 students and 145 faculty members, which means around 21 students per faculty member; a good ratio. I study in MCA department and our department has 10 teaching and 2 non teaching lab staff not including the staff in administrative, office and cleaning department. Most of the staff in MCA department have 20 years of teaching experience, some of them have first hand industry experience. The staffs are knowledgeable, cooperative and highly approachable. The teachers will always be available in the staffroom when they are not teaching and we can approach them at any time even after regular class timings to clear our doubts.
