Dislikes
- The marking system is not up to date. Students are not given enough marks.
- There is need for improvement in the infrastructure.
- The university doesn't have a playground of its own.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is designed pretty well with International, National and Regional Literature. There are frequent seminars and webinars organised by the department. I feel it'll prepare the students for real life experience with soft skills courses like Business Communication and Creative writing. The only drawback is the marking system. Enough marks are not awarded to the students. The frequency and timing of exams are quite apt.
Internships Opportunities
Many of the PSU's offer internship opportunities to the students in the university. There is a Placement and Career Counselling Cell in the University that looks into this department. The University has also collaborated with Assam Start-Up to provide opportunities to the students.
Fees and Financial Aid
The hike in tuition fees is a very rare thing. For BA Honours in English the yearly cost will be around 15000INR. There's a lot of opportunities for like scholarships like Ishan Uday Scholarship (54000 INR per annum) and EWS scholarship (2000INR per annum. I don't have much idea about the campus employment.
Campus Life
There's a lot of Festivals and National Level events organised in the campus throughout the year including the prestigious Manik Chandra Barooah National Level Debate Competition, Cotton University Model United Nations, All Assam State Level Drama Competition, Bhaona, Bihu, Varsity Week etc. The library in the University is quite large and has a wide range of books and journals. People all over Northeast visit Cotton University's library in search of some rare books. The infrastructure in the classrooms is quite poor considering University standards. A lot of extra curricular activities are offered including NCC, NSS, Debating Clubs, Cultural Clubs, Mountaineering Societies etc. The student politics is very prominent in the university.
Admission
As Cotton University is a very prestigious university in the region, the selection rate is very low. For BA Honours in English, 40% of the admissions will be based on CUET and 60% on Merit in 12th Boards. The application form and other details will be available in the official website of Cotton University. I don't have any idea about Reservation. The examinations are conducted twice each semester and the difficulty level is high. The admission process according to me is apt.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1 teacher for 25-30 students. Most of the professors are highly qualified and I absolutely love the way they teach. The teachers are very approachable and we regularly interact with them.
Other Applied Colleges
