What Students Say
Likes
- The campus space is really big and the infrastructure is also up to the mark, it wouldn't be wrong to call it the best in chhattisgarh and the hostel is also far better than other colleges in CG, spacious and clean.
- Once you figure out a way to set a routine, you don't have to put in a lot of work to clear exams. The timings are also easier in this college than most. The classes start at 9 and end at 4.
- You don't have to buy super expensive books, just show respect to your seniors and they'll help you out. They'll even help you make the best out of the vast number of resources available and will teach you how to have fun.
Dislikes
- The toilets of the college buildings are broken and mostly non functional, which is a huge turn off. Most of the ACs in the lecture halls are broken as well.
- Getting optimum Nutrition from food as a hosteller is a tough job, especially if you're in first year you aren't allowed vehicles so it can be hard to go out to get stuff for projects etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
If you're getting into MBBS, you have cleared neet and you have a slight idea of what you're getting yourself into. The subjects are tough, especially anatomy, because of the vastness of the subject. But if you're consistent and making lil efforts everyday, it's achievable without hampering the fun part of college life. Here are a few gem of resources that everyone uses for first year. Biochemistry - jambhulkar notes, Vasudevan/ satyanarayan book Lippincott for advanced studies Physiology - Sembulingam and Guyton. I swear by them. It doesn't get any simpler than this. Ganong for in depth studies Anatomy - Johari for exams Vishram Singh for easy to understand language and super simple diagrams Gray's anatomy for in depth understanding. Embryology - vishram Singh Histology - IB Singh Dissection - Cunningham or Mercy Navis There will be 2 terminal exams 1 pre University and then the final University. Don't rely on lectures to prepare you for this. You'll have to teach yoursel
Internships Opportunities
As an intern you have to practice basic clinical examinations with real patients, guide them through each process and tests and prescribe basic medication under the supervision of an attending doctor. The workload is intense. You have no time for yourself. It's practicing for long endless shifts and still being active throughout. That's the life of a doctor. After that you can get a letter of recommendation to help with further placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees don't get hiked too often It's 40k INR for tuition 10k INR non govt fees 3k INR hostel fees For the entire year. The mess could cost anywhere between 2700 to 3500 per month depending on which services you choose. There is a scholarship exam for people belonging to SC ST category and they can get upto 90% off on the tuition fees. The stipend for interns currently is 17500 INR/ month and is likely to increase in the near future. The job as an intern is extremely tough, you work day and night and have to study for PG as well. There is a rural bond for 2 years, which pays around 45k/month and is a comparatively easier job than internship. This salary always tends to rise with growing protests.
Campus Life
The annual college fest is called IRIS. It has so many fun activities and everyone comes together to bring it to life. Apart from that you are invited to all the other college fests from different medical Colleges which is so fun with the right company. Don't ever miss out on these because these are the occasions to create unforgettable memories. As of now, there isn't any official club for any activity but you can get into the football and cricket team with considerable skills. About other activities, you'll be given opportunities based on events taking place at the moment without any official club. This is kind of a weak point. The library offers a wide range of popular books and is fairly accessible. No complaints from the library but it can be sometimes hard to find lesser known books. About laboratories , all necessary equipments are present but in the physiology labs most of the instruments are non functional and broken. You have to buy your own for the most part.
Hostel Facilities
The room is big enough for 2 people. Some of them with a balcony. Equipped with: A wooden bed Wooden table and chair A built in shelf which is pretty spacious A cupboard to be shared by two 3 charging points A fan 2 tubelights Apart from that you have to bring everything by yourself including buckets and mattress and pillows. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly but most of them have some or the other defect making it non functional but even with that, it works and isn't too big of a problem once you're used to it. There are 2 water coolers on the 2nd and 3rd floor. No lifts.
Admission
You have to crack NEET UG. The cutoff for the year 2023 for my college was 579/720 for general category. If you have reservation benefits then you can get in a Lot easier than the rest . If you have freedom fighter reservation benefits then the cut off score can go as low as 165/720 Cut off increases with increasing cut throat competition. The admission process could be a lot more efficient and the refund process needs to be worked on. It's almost been an year and I still haven't received my refund from CGDME. The admission lists keep getting delayed and scrutiny takes a lot of preparation.
Faculty
You can definitely approach the faculties but be prepared for cross questions and make sure you've tried your best to understand that topic before asking doubts. In the beginning, most of the classes just don't happen due to lack of attendance from all students.
