Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is set as per SPPU pattern. As compared to other colleges offering same courses, Fergusson College offers a more application based theory on every topic and the practicals are such that they help us understand the concept even better. The college conducts Semester exams every 4 months and unit exams twice per semester; which is 4 times per year
Internships Opportunities
Many paid and unpaid internships opportunities are available for students. For science departments, students have access to labs and national level institutes across India such as IISER, NISEC, IITs, IISC, IUCAA, NCL, SERUM Labs etc.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from their final year of graduation. I don't have much knowledge about placements but I know that industries often visit the college and many students get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for FYBSc is around 13000, including tuition fees and lab charges, service fees and other compulsory charges. The fee gradually reduces for SY and further for TY. Many students avail government as well as private scholarships such as DBT, state scholarships etc. Apart from that, the college provides a very good chance of earning through the "Earn and Learn Scheme" which helps many students. The department also provides certain scholarships on the basis of exams conducted by the higher authorities.
Campus Life
Fergusson College is always jostling with some or the other cultural activities. The college conducts it's annual 5 day fest 'Spandan' which includes cultural performances, departmental rallies, sports fest 'Josh' and traditional dress days. Apart from that, departmental fests are conducted most times. Every department has its own library which has great books authored by some of the best authors and has plenty PYQs for exams. The College Gymkhana conducts many athletic competitions and students are motivated to participate at different levels. Many students have represented at national levels too. The college also encourages social as well as educational activities under the supervision of the following clubs SOEC: Social Outreach Enabling Centre SAATHI NCC NSS ASTRO Club
Admission
The cutoff for BSc drops till 70% which enables many students to avail the courses. The details of the admission process is updated on the college website and the process is very simple and easy to undergo. The office staff was very cooperative with me during my admission and cleared all my queries patiently with clarity. Reservations are provided on the basis of caste, religion, gender, disabilities, military service background of either parent. Overall, the system is very efficient
Faculty
Overall, my departments have many well qualified professors who are always ready to help; even if they are not assigned to teach us. For every 55-60 students, 2 professors per subject are assigned by the college. The faculty members keep us informed about upcoming internship opportunities which help us in the career and in our CVs
