Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was designed keeping in mind the industry requirements. Every student could select among the plethora of options offered, picking their own interests and pursuing that further. With the option of electives and flexi-credit courses, there is exposure to almost every type of media
Internships Opportunities
I worked with The News Minute and The Hindu Businessline. Other big media companies also frequent the university. Students will have to do two mandatory internships - one summer and one winter. These usually last a period of 6-8 weeks, depending on the company itself.
Placement Experience
Placements in general are quite great, because of how longstanding the university's reputation is. I was especially pleased with the internship opportunities provided, because of which I even landed a job. However, one batch in every few years may face the brunt of a bad job market. But students can keep in touch with their classmates/seniors for opportunities
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is quite expensive, considering how much the industry typically offers as stipend. There are no scholarships as per my knowledge, but the topper is entitled to a certain amount every semester.
Campus Life
The campus is beautiful. Students are required to mandatorily be part of a few "cells" - admission cell, branding cell, sports cell, etc. during their course. Students can also avail facilities like swimming pool, gym, badminton and basketball courts, 24/7 library, a mess, a midnight cafe, departmental stores on campus. Since it's a residential course, students are expected to stay on campus full time.
Hostel Facilities
Every student is allotted a 2 sharing or 3 sharing room, each with an inbuilt washroom. Each room also has its own wifi router. The rooms are somewhat spacious. There is enough privacy also. They are not too concerned about what you do in your private space, with the exception of abusing alcohol/other substances. The hostels also have cleaning staff, so students don't have to worry about cleaning
Admission
A candidate must have a general understanding of the media, along with knowledge of current affairs and a passion for journalism. The admission process consists of an initial MCQ test, a personal interview and a group discussion
Faculty
During the course of two years, the college brought in at least 7 different guest faculty who are experts in their respective fields. Our in-house faculty were also very qualified and experienced in their own ways.
Interview Experience
Very generic topics related to politics/media industry. Be familiar with current affairs. Don't claim to be apolitical. Or indecisive. Confidence is important. English skills are also necessary. Be sure of what you want out of the course you've applied to.
