Likes
- The teachers are really student friendly and they make the course easy to understand.
- The friends here are open mindedness and are very career oriented so it gives a positive environment here.
- There are smart boards available which makes learning more faster and interesting. We also do presentation using these boards.
Dislikes
- There are no AC installed here since it gets really hot in the summer and sometimes the heat is unbearable
- The class interiors are so bland. It's quite old fashioned and boring but ventilation is quite ok.
- The toilets here are not maintained that properly so sanity wise I would rate it 5/10 in this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it has the relevant options which hold the most importance in the job world of Engineers, unlike other colleges where many options make it confusing for the students. We have workshops in the 1st year so we get a real life experience in what tasks the low level engineers mostly do when they enter into the real world jobs. And then we get internships and skills related to our specialisation in the second year. The curriculum is quite vast and focuses on overall view on all aspects. In depth is taught especially when the majority students are curious. We use smart boards where some topics which cannot be explained in theory are showed to us visually and students prepare presentations based on trending topics in the computer science field. I wish there were more sessions where most students are included in presentations to sharpen our communication skills. Exams are twice every year and mid sems 20 days before semesters and are medium in difficulty.
Internships Opportunities
The roles usually offered to our department students are junior data analysts because that is usually the base for computer science engineering where we will be given data for cleaning and assorting. Here our programming skills are monitored and how efficiently we are able to represent the data in a reliable manner. This goes under industrial internships where students with some skills are eligible for. Then there are educational internships where students are to attend special skill classes like Devops and get certification too from different institutions. My friend who got a summer internship in MDA a startup company where data handling is done by the employees and the task usually assigned to them is data cleaning mostly and she will receive a stipend of 4k per month. I also heard this purified data is used usually by marketing companies like the telecallinh department for reaching out to targeted customers who need their products.
Placement Experience
It's usually in the end of the 3rd year where some companies attend our campus for pre campus drives, some students are chosen for future internships and important companies come in the 4th year for campus drives so it all about patience and perseverance. Accenture and tech Mahindra are the companies that attend our campus drives every year and some start ups too. So the usual offer made for top students is usually an average of 9LPA and the overall average is 7LPA. There is usually a criteria that only students with no back papers and a cgpa of 7.5 or 8 can sit in interview rounds with the companies. So there is no percentage, depending on the number of intellectual students in the present batch. I plan to first develop my skills in the areas I'm genuinely interested in and then try for some campus placements, get an experience and decide if it's good for me in the long run and if not I'm thinking of doing MBA in future.
Fees and Financial Aid
So per year it's 1.2Lakh for now and there are some hikes in the fees for the next batches. Not necessarily in the present batch. So probably after 4-5 years hikes occur. The complete fees is 1.2Lakh including tuition fees and service fees and also bus fare. There are many scholarships offered every year especially for students whose parents are Ex Army or in the army. There are also scholarships for bright students who have secured top marks in their 12th standards. The amount offered is usually 15k to 20k as far as I know. At the moment I have not been employed since I'm in 2nd year but I do know about some seniors who were offered internships in summer where they were assigned as junior data engineers where basic analysis and computing of data was done in small organisations located approx 25km from our college. The stipend was around 5000 to 7000. It purely depends on your skills though.
Campus Life
There are so many festivals here especially tech fests and cultural programs. Annual day, freshers and farewell days are compulsory. Techfests are hosted by our college every year usually in the months of January and in October- December. The library is my favourite place. It has so many good books available both for the syllabus and for skill development. Its quiet and peaceful. Smart boards and fans are available in the classrooms. There are no ACs for now so it's either too hot or too cold in summer and winter respectively. Annual Sports day is held every year too but I'm not a big fan of it. It does occur usually in the middle of the academic year. There are around 5-6 clubs for all students lie the Excel club, cloud club and the rotary club, which are the most famous ones. They include skill development activities and competitions too state wise and inter college. Usually held by the senior club members and passed down to 3rd years when our 4th years seniors pass out.
Admission
In NIST Berhampur, the eligibility considered most of the time is 12th standard marks where you have to secure atleast 75% more. And some perks are also given to the students who appeared in Jee mains with a good ranking. Application forms are available both online and in our department office. The application fees are 11000/- and the dates are usually in the months of June and July. There are no specific exams though for admission process. All matters is your 12th and 10th marksheet here. It would be nice if there were good hostings done in the admission process because most of the parents didn't have chairs to sit while waiting for the admission fee payment. It was quite tiresome waiting in the hot summer and there were no ACs available at the time.
Faculty
The teacher student ratio is around 40-200 so there's enough teachers for each section considering each section has around 64 students in our department and all teachers are available for all students regarding for doubt clearing, career guidance and etc. The teachers are really knowledgeable. They have really impressive backgrounds and have heavy experience in Computer engineering including Technology advancements in their lifetimes and how they were made to adapt to the changes. Really inspiring and motivating for us students. They use smart boards where materials are special made in some classes for our better understanding and concept clearing. The teachers are also quite student friendly.. most of them. They don't hesitate to provide solutions regarding our career and most are approachable too. They are in our student group chats where discussion is done openly related to anything you have doubt in.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
It was way too far from home so parents didn't allow.
