Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Electrical Engineering because I had a keen interest in Electricity and Magnetism subject since I was in 12th standard. Being an IIT, the course curriculam is very well designed in my college. The curriculam consists of comprehensive theory and practical experiments which will equip you with all the knowledge and understanding of the subject which you will require for real-world applications and for further academic pursuits. The course curriculam is pretty good, however I think teaching methods could be improved, 3d models can be used for better visualisation. Field trips could be increased so that the students have a better understanding of how thinks work in the practical world and also have a good industry exposure. The frequency and difficulty level of exams was pretty hectic, although this is what is expected from an IITian, to be able to handle pressure situation well.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Many companies come to our campus for selecting interns including the software giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Sprinklr, Atlassian, etc. The stipend ranges from 10k - 2 lakhs per month. College also provides assistance in some of the off campus opportunities. Internships are offered for various roles such as software development engineer, consulting, finance, UI/UX designer, digital marketing, etc.

Placement Experience

4

The students are eligible for placement in their 7th semester. Companies start conducting online assessments from the month of July and interviews are scheduled in the month of December. Many companies visit our campus for placements including IT companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. and core related companies like Texas Instruments, Jaguar Land Rover, ONGC, etc. The placement stats of 2022 batch and 2023 batch was quite spectacular, the placement season of 2024 batch has taken a hit as this year many companies are not hiring and ones which are hiring, they have also decreased their numbers. Highest package offered is 89 lakhs by Atlassian for the software development profile. Average package is around 16.5 lakhs. By the end of placement season almost 90% students get placed and others opt for higher studies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

During our entire course the tuition fee was constant which is 1 lakh rupees per semester. There wasn't any hike the tuition fee during our entire course. The complete cost of 4 years of BTech comes around 10.5 lakhs including 1lakh tuition fee, 15000 mess fee, 3000 hostel charge and some other charges per semester. SC and ST category students are exempted from tuition fee. There is also a provision for tuition fee waiver for students having family income less than 5 lakhs per annum. (100% for family income <= 1lakh & 67% for 1 lakh < family income <= 5 lakhs). Many scholarships are offered to students, the one offered by college itself is MCM (Merit Cum Means) for students having family income less than 5 lakhs. The eligibility criteria other than income is maintaining a CGPA above 6.0.

Campus Life

5

The overall campus life is pretty vibrant. Various fest are held including our cultural fest - Srijan, technical fest - Concetto, sports fest - Parakram, Mining fest - Khanan and alumni fest - Basant. Srijan and Basant are usually hel in February, Parakram in March, Concetto in October and Khanan in November. Our Central library is one of the biggest technical libraries in India. Many copies of curriculam related books and journals are available in the library. They are easily accesible for any student. Classrooms are equiped with high end technologies like projector, smart board, speakers, mic, etc. Facilities for almost all kind of common sports are available in the campus. Coaches ans trainers are also there to assist the students in preparation of events such as Inter IITs. Many student run clubs and societies are there in the college including cultural clubs, techical clubs, sports club, coding societies, etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The Hostel room has all the necessary facilities including lifts. The cleaning staff is regular and maintainance is pretty decent. The meal quality in Hostel mess is decent, not very good but decent. Other than mess, many canteens and food outlets are also there in the campus, including one in each Hostel. The menu of Hostel mess has a variety of North Indian food and also some South Indian dishes. The registration process for Hostel allotment is done during the admissions. Hostels are quite affordable, Hostel fee is mere 3000 per semester and Mess charge is 15000 per semester which is quite affordable.

Admission

For admission into an IIT you are required to take the JEE Advanced test which is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the world. You need to have Physics, Chemistry and Maths as your subjects in 10+2. In order to be eligible for JEE Advanced test you need to first clear the JEE Main test. Application for JEE Main starts around December every year. For JEE Main you're given two attempts (four in the year 2021), first attempt around January and second around April, and the best out of two is considered. If you clear the cutoff, you will be eligible for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced test is held around June and you only have one attempt at it. After the result, there is six rounds of counselling in which you can fill your choices according to the rank you have secured and get admission into your dream college.

Remarks:

The college should improve its status. The course curriculum is quite outdated, we are still busy in C and C++. No one is focusing on emerging programming languages like Python. The exam structure is quite simple. First we have mid semester exams of 30 marks then there comes the semester exams. The semester exam question paper consist of 8 questions in which we have to answer any 5. We people are not getting the knowledge. we are just passing the exams.

College is good in sense of presence around the corporate network. Efforts is required to cope up with the academic. BIT has been known for its extend of academia. Campus is lush green but in summers water scarcity may be faced.

People who have positive experiences tend to pat themselves on the back for choosing wisely and getting their money's worth. But people who haven't had those positive experiences tend to want to put things right, and to "warn off" anyone thinking about making the same decision.

A negative aspect is that its not present in metro location and is mostly semi urban...So students do not get a lot of exposure and experience to big companies and miss on certain chances....A positive aspect is that this colleges leaves everything to students so students are made self dependent..

Remarks:

My overall experience in this college has been quite moderate till date. One of the biggest problems one will face is that the library, computer centre and the student activity centre are not operational 24/7 till date, Another problem is never ending construction work is quite nagging and the continuous motion of the heavy vehicles due to that construction throughout the campus makes the campus appear more or less like an under-construction site than a college. Good college, Equipped with moderate infrastructure, which is in a state of progress. Placements are good. Opportunities are available in different fields but you will have to grasp them without procrastination.
