Remarks

In a nutshell, the college is nice provided that you really wish to opt for a distance course.

Entrance Preview

My main reason behind opting for IDOL - Institute of Distance and Open Learning, Mumbai University is because I was also doing a job at the same time and did not wish to opt for a regular course. Another reason as to why I opted for this specific college is because it is recognized throughout the country as it comes under Mumbai University.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is heavy with regards to MA English. There is no segregation or to say a marker of what needs to be studied and what needs to be excluded. The syllabus is diverse and a thorough research from your side is required before you sit for your exams.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not provide any kind of internship on their own. There are several clubs which are run by the students themselves where you might be able to obtain information about several internships.

Placement Experience

3

The placement cell of the college is great. For you to get a good placement, you need to score extremely well in your final year. Else the entire concept of placements and job opportunities becomes null and void. Many good companies flock in the campus each year and are eager to take in students from MU.

College Events

4

There are different kinds of events taking place in Mumbai University throughout the year. The best of them being the panel discussions that takes place in the campus from time to time. People who have excelled in a specific field come to the campus from different parts of the country to share knowledge.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since Mumbai University is run by the government, it is extremely feasible. Inspite of having a state of art architecture, world class facilities and an extremely good faculty, the fee is pretty feasible and does not fall into the higher bracket at all. My fee for a year is 8k, including the exam fee and study material.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't think so that the university offers any kind of scholarship or loan facility. If you perform exceptionally not just with regards to academics, but overall, the university may consider your case.

Campus Life

3.5

The best part about the campus is that it is extremely spacious. As soon as you enter the campus, you will see that it is lush green. Gender ratio is netural and you would see all kinds of students sitting under the shade or sipping a cup of coffee in the college canteen. The students get a platform to showcase their talents as there are several events held in the college

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Since I was a day scholar, I do not have the sufficient amount of knowledge that is required about the hostel facilities and the mess food. I have visited the girls hostel just once and would like to say that it is very well maintained even though the building is really old. It is kept neat and tidy.

Alumni/Alumna

Many great personalities have passed out from Mumbai University. As far as I know, the alumi network is nice and there are several reunions taking place throughout the year.

Exam Structure

The best part about IDOL - Institute of Distance and Open Learning, Mumbai University is its exam structure. Basically, people who are working and wish to do their masters at the same time opt for IDOL. Usually, the students at the university do not find the time to come to college again and again and hence the university has a yearly exam pattern.

Admission

The admission process may be a little complex for you on the off chance that you do not have a domicile of the state, that is Maharashtra. So, here is what you need to do. 1. Make sure thatT you get a migration certificate from your previous university before applying for MU. 2. Applications will be out for new session online once previous years results are declared. 3. Upload all your documents on the online form. 4. Go to the university to get your application attested. 5. If you are from any other university, which is not in Mumbai, you will have to get an eligibilty certificate from the university. 6. Once your application is attested by IDOL, your online application status will change and you have to pay your fee online. Take the recepit and go to the university. You will get your admission ID.

Faculty

4

Since it is a distance course, I have not interacted with the faculty much. Classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays mostly in the second half. As far as I have seen, the faculty is really supportive to students who take the genuine interest in the subject. Notwithstanding, the faculty is such that they let you sit in regular classes as well with their permission.
