Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IITBBS), is the standard curriculum followed by all other IIT's, but with some modifications here and there to fit for the Students according to the courses. I am from Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department, we have a good enough curriculum, which involves fundamentals to practical applications of concepts. But there would exams, tests, assignments conduted very frequently, there would another test even before we recover the last test. Same with assignments, lab reports and submission deadlines. But I guess it goes the same for every Engineering college around the country.
Internships Opportunities
Given the circumstances of Recession, we did not have a very good internship this time around in 2021-2025 batch, but there were multiple companies that came for the internship and selected few students who are good enough. So, the Internship scenario has seen a downfall compared to last few years, which might be due to may reasons, but hoping it would rise in the coming years with all the development happening around IIT Bhubaneswar.
Placement Experience
The placements are good enough, might not have many Core oppurtunities for Branches like Mechanical, Civil and Metallurgy but most of the people get placed as there is a good amount of non-core oppurtunities like software development, web and ML. The Summary is that if you want to go into Non-core side you can have better placement oppurtunity compared to Core, even though we also get multiple core companies each year, and the placement each year is growing with the campus
Fees and Financial Aid
The Tution fee is about Rs. 1,15,00 per semester, but we can avail Fee remission depending on our Income. We can recover the total tution fee if the income is less the 1LPA, and 2/3rd of tution fee can be recovered if income is less than 5LPA. There is no need to pay the total fee if you can avail fee remission, you only need to pay the remaining amout per semester. And also there are numerous scholarship opportunities (based on merit MCM) etc.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty good, not comparable to top tier IIT's like Bombay, Madras but still a good campus. There are three fests at IIT Bhubaneswar, E-Summit, the annual Entrepreneurship Summit of IIT Bhubaneswar, Wissenaire, the techfest of IIT Bhubaneswar, Alma Fiesta, the Cultural Fest of IIT Bhubaneswar. And we also have frequent programmes, festival celebrations, events conducted in the campus (Ugadi, Pongal, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali etc..). There are many clubs, societies run by students , we can join them based on our interest. Overall a good campus life
Hostel Facilities
Given the hostel mess fee to 18,000 per semester, it is a good hostel, all the hostels are still new as it is relatively a new IIT. The main standout is that we get a single accomodation room from first year itself, you can have your own privacy, there are common rooms, Night canteen etc.. But the hostel food is ofcourse not so good as any hostel in any part of the world. There is a very good maintainance of hostel, cleaning the hostel corridors, bathrooms every day and also weekly cleaning of our rooms by the hostel staff which is very good compared to many other colleges. Overall, a solid hostel facility, but food... ehmm
Admission
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) conducts the joint admission process for National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). SO, the Admission process was smooth enough as it was conducted by JOSAA. We have to put our prefernces before the counselling starts, and we have to put the institutes and courses of out preference at the top, so that if we are eligible for that we can lock it right away. If you have a reservation like OBC you have a slight advantage in getting seats as there are seats allocated for reservation candidates, with lower cutoff and lower rank , we can get good seats comparitively. But the only thing is , the process is very long (about a month) and also requires good thinking of placing preferences without any confusion
