Remarks
College management is filled up with dishonest, corrupt people (bare a few). Now that the director has changed, hope that it gets better for the incoming students. B.tech students enjoy life here. M.tech students, not so much.
Entrance Preview
I chose this college because IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is the best college in India for petroleum engineering and also now its an IIT. Further more I chose petroleum engineering for my masters as I had completed my undergraduation in the same course and wanted to study more.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum needs a change as most of the subjects which were taught to us in the 1st year had already been studied by us in our undergraduation. No electives were offered either. The 2nd year consists of only research work, we got no subjects to study, which is the norm.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, the college does provides internship in some good companies. All of my batch mates, including me, did our internship in ONGC. No stipened was offered to us by the company, but we still receieved the GATE scholarship money.
Placement Experience
Placement statistics for b.tech is really really good, as what you would expect in an IIT. But the same cannot be said for the m.tech. M.Tech are not even allowed to sit for the campus placement selection procedure for most of the companies. Here I am talking about the m.tech in petroleum engg.
College Events
1. Concetto (Techfest) 2. Srijan (Cultural fest) 3. Basant 4. Other major festivals Well, if one thing that I like about this institute is the number of events celebrated here and the scale of those events. In short, they are really really good, and that may be because most of the organizing part is done by the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure for m.tech Sem 1 : ?60,000 (approx) Sem 2 : ?35,000 (approx) Sem 3 : ?42,000 (approx) Sem 4 : ?35,000 (approx) The above fee mentioned is for the general candidates. Reserve category students get some concession. The above fee includes the hostel room and mess rent too.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes, The scholarahip is provided to each and every m.tech student who takes admission through GATE exam of ?400 per day.
Campus Life
There is very little scope of campus life here. Campus is not that big if you compare it to other IITs. Hostel in time is 11:00 pm for boys and 9:30 pm for girls. The main canteen is too small, the two grounds are well maintained amd decent enough. It's an open campus. No CCTVs anywhere.
Hostel Facilities
Boys hostel, its the worst. Not something you would expect from an IIT. Rooms which are made for single students are used to occupy 2 students. Its got single cupboard and a slap on which only one student can sit and study. Food is not great either. Girls do have much better rooms than boys, but only in new hostels, old ones are the same as boys'.
Alumni/Alumna
Haven't had much interaction with the seniors. They were not really interested in interacting with the juniors.
Exam Structure
Exams are held twice in each semester. Mid sem exams carry 30% weightage and end sem exams carry 60% weightage. Rest 10% is given by the teacher for your class performance. Just need to study previous years question paper and you can become the topper.
Admission
I got the admission through GATE entrance exam. I Scored 55.6 marks in 2017 GATE exam and my gate score was 470. A merit list was then created and councelling sessions were held. I got call up for the third round of councelling and luckily got a seat.
Faculty
To be honest, I don't have a rather good review for the faculty overall. Some are too good, but then there are some who are nowhere near the level which is required for an IIT faculty. There are some who joined just after completing their masters. But now the selection criteria has changed, so we could expect some improvements.
