Remarks

College Management is not that good. There is a Student Council to act as a bridge between students and College Administration. new initiative or ideas proposed by Student Council.

Entrance Preview

I went through IIT-JEE in 2016. My admission was on the basis of my JEE Mains marks and my Board results in the ratio 60:40 respectively. I secured 158 marks in mains and 94.8% in 12th board. That was the last batch in which board exam marks were considered for final rankings. I was ranked about 18k. I went through last years cut-offs for various colleges and thus opted for NIT Jamshedpur. I was very sure that I will land with ECE here and my expectations came true as ECE was the branch which I was longing for.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course Curriculum here is well designed to focus on almost every aspect of a particular branch because most of the course curriculum is copied from IIT Kgp curriculum but there is going to be a major revision in a curriculum for every branch and all years. If everything goes fine, this is to be implemented from the coming session and for newly admitted batch only. In the last 2 yrs of my college life,I haven't seen much research work being done here. Only a few M.Tech. Seniors are focussed on research but only a few from B.Tech are involved.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, various companies provide Internship for 3rd year B.Tech. Students and for M.Tech. 2nd year as well. Most of the internships offered get converted to PPO. Companies who offer Internship include Amazon,IBM,Intel,Tata Steel,Tata Motors,UHG etc. Amazon pays around 40k per month during the internship. UHG is paying 35k per month during the internship period. The overall experience of people going for Internships is quite good.

Placement Experience

4.5

This year NIT Jamshedpur has the highest placement percentage i.e. 90%. All thanks to TAP cell. The major recruiters here are L&T, Amazon,Nokia,Wipro,Infosys,Microsoft,Samsung,Cognizant,Tata Steel,Tata Motors And many more MNCs. The packages range from 4LPA to 27LPA, the highest being offered by Amazon to 10 students this year from CSE and ECE branch.

College Events

5

The even semester here is full of Events. Starting from January end,Annual Alumni meet,Annual Sports meet-URJA and Technica(branch fest of Metallurgy) are scheduled. In 2nd week Of February,The cultural fest CULFEST is scheduled. It is a 3 day fest involving a lot many cultural events, fun games and participation from various colleges. The main Event of NIT Jsr is OJASS which is the annual Techno-Management fest organised in mid-march. There is more than 4000 footfalls during this 3-day fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is split into 3 categories. First one for those with annual parental income greater than 5 lakhs. They have to submit full fee which is about 1 lakhs a semester including hostel, mess and tuition fees. Those having income between 1 lakh and 5 lakh, they get 2/3rd rebet in tuition fees. And those with income less than 1 lakh get full tuition fee waiver. So,overall it is expensive for some while quite feasible and cheap for others.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes,various scholarships are offered by college which can be seen on college website. These scholarships include e-kalyan by Govt Of Jharkhand, Samsung Scholarship and many more. Some scholarships are funded by Alumnis of the college which include Malli Mastan Babu Scholarship. Loans are easily available from SBI bank branch in the Institute Campus.

Campus Life

2.5

The Gender ratio differs from Branch to Branch. It is maximum in ECE,CSE while the least in Mechanical. Campus Life here is too good as the campus is situated far from Industrial area and crowded places like markets. There are various clubs for Robotics,Debates,Sports and various other technical teams and also a quizzing club. Amongst all the clubs here, some are just too good to join which includes Qunite & Phoenix.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostels are far better than you can get in an engineering college in India. From first year, everyone is provided with single rooms. There are two mega hostels which have a capacity of accomodating 1500 students at a time. All the mega hostel rooms have individual balcony. PG students are also provided with single rooms. The washrooms are cleaned daily and there are enough cleaning staffs for the hostel premises. Mess is operated by private companies on contract basis. And Each hostel has HEC which looks after the mess works, food and menu. Overall,Mess Food is also nice.

Alumni/Alumna

College seniors, here are much helpful and ready to help juniors for everything possible. They guide you for your studies, sports and every aspect possible. Alumni Network here is also well managed by Industry And Alumni Relations Team. Annually Alumni Meet is organised in the month of January and there is a huge get-together of Alumnis. They help their Alma-Mater in all possible ways,be it placements or internships as well as financial supports.

Exam Structure

Previously,we used to have 3 exams in a semester: 2 Monthly tests and 1 End sem. Monthly Tests are of 20 marks each And End sem is of 40 marks. There is much time between the exams for anyone to prepare from nil to 100. But from the upcoming session, the exam schedule is to be revised, official notice hasn't come yet but it will be up on the college website in a few days.

Admission

After the seat allocation and paper verification at BIT Mesra,I went for admission process at NIT Jamshedpur in last week of July 2016. Here,we had to queue up for admission process which included paper verification, collecting fee payment receipts, alloting hostel rooms all well arranged in a queue. The admission process work was very smooth though it took almost 3 hours for me as I went on first day and the crowd was too much. We were also provided with College Id-Card at the end of the admission process.

Faculty

3

Recently, there has been recruitments of permanent faculties in all branches. So,the faculty base is enriched from the coming session. Still there are some Ad-Hoc faculties in some branches which are there on temporary basis on contract. Overall, except a few Old faculties, one can have a good learning experience.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.

Various companies like PayPal, Wipro , cognizant ,TCS ,Genpact ,Amdocs etc. Highest Package this year is 35 lpa and Average Package is around 7.5 lpa. Around 90% of students from circuital branch and around 80% students from non-circuital branch has been placed so far this year. My plan is prepare very smartly for campus placements and bag a very good PPO from are tech based company.
