Course Curriculum Overview
IIFT as a college was established in the 1960s as a backbone of trade in India. The cirriculum here involves a lot of research and in depth industry knowledge, the faculties are highly qualified and would offer live projects for students to learn under them apart from the ongoing academic hustle. We have been studying every domain from an international perspective which can help anyone to broaden their horizons and understand the area of trade and commerce better.
Internships Opportunities
The summer internship oppurtunities offered by IIFT, Kolkata is niether too good nor too bad. If you have the skillset the companies want, then you will be offered a 2.25 lakhs/month summer internship and if you do not have what they are looking for, you might end up with a 20-30k/month summers. And here I do not mean having a workex of multiple years as the desired skillset, FYI freshers from our batch have landed up in great companies paying great stipend.
Placement Experience
One is eligible to sit for the summer placements right after the college starts, however the final placements take place somewhere in the fifth trisem. I am currently in the first year of the MBA course so I dont have much insights on the final placement cycle however the average CTC goes till 21LPA. Coming to the companies that come for recruitement, we have all the top companies from all domains visiting our campus be it Dabur, BMW, Godrej, JPMC, to name a few.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure for MBA-IB at IIFT is like any other B school, the total fee lies close to 2100000, segmented into 6 installments. There are various scholarship oppurtunities you can find not exactly on campus, but through multiple government schemes that we are being exposed to every now and then.
Campus Life
Being a student here at IIFT, I can assure you that the campus life here is pretty great, we have classes from 9:30 to 6:30, post which we are generally on our own doing live projects, assignment, hanging out with friends, or whatever sails your boat. The sports culture is also something to be mentioned, we have section-wars every trisem and it is a fun blood bath to witness. Apart from that there are multiple clubs, cells and committees where you all can find something of your interest, be it core domains like marketing and consulting or niche interests like public speaking, quizzes and market research. All of these clubs and cells are student body, and runs without any admin intervention
Hostel Facilities
I was provided accomodation in the campus itself, the girl's hostel so to say is much much better when compared to the boy's hostel in terms of infrastructure and facilities. The meals served is pretty variant and inclusive, keeping in mind everyone's regional taste buds. We constantly give feedbacks to the hostel and mess incharge and to your surprise they do act on them pretty quickly.
Admission
The admission process here at IIFT, Kolkata was pretty smooth. Your eligibility in this college was determined through the IIFT exam which was taking place till last year, but from this year onwards it is solely dependent on the CAT score. After clearly the cutoff score, I received a call within 15-20 days of result declaration and from that point on it was a slow but continuous process. However, it took them 5 months to wrap the whole process of GD-PI and our batch started officially on 10th of July, which is pretty late for Bschools, apart from that everything else was pretty much a cakewalk.
Interview Experience
My admission process, apart from the entrance exam included Extempore, followed by a Personal interview. The topic for my extempore was the Indo China silent war in terms of trade. My interview panel comprised of 4 people, all 4 of them asked me multiple questions, all to do with my form and my academic background. If you are a not a fresher unlike me there is a strong possibility of your interview being dominated with questions regarding your job roles and responsibilities.
