Remarks

My overall experience in this campus till now is good. Well one cant vouch these days..Touchwood. But I would like to add that SRM is actually a good college if you use each and every amenity to its fullest and SRM nurtures talent and has the potential of being one of the best universities in India.

Entrance Preview

I took the SRMJEE when I realized there was finally a college who could admit superb scholars like me who was too intelligent for IIT's. I also heard pretty good reviews from my neighbours about this college too. (Well they review anything I do in life, so its not new to me.) There wasnt a interview process when I was getting admitted to this college. I chose computer science particularly because I had a immense interest in the field of computing. I wanted to know the in depth vitals of computing and programming. So I chose this stream and decided to follow it for 4 years.......oh come on..who am I kidding. I took up CSE because I hated all other streams as I couldnt even spell them correctly, let alone understanding what they actually meant. But I loved programs and keyboards and beeping noises in the CPU. so here I am. A CSE student in a college for 4 long years.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I am in first year. In this year we are mostly taught subjects which , to be precise, have nothing to do with computer science Engineering. For example. Basic Civil Engineering, Basic Bilogy for Engineers, etc. Maybe they add the "Basic" word just as a joke. Or sarcasm. Who knows. To be true practical learning was good so far as we were taught how to install Operating systems which even my Grandfather would have called old. But, understanding was good all over. It was good. And to be honest. The teachers were very helpful when it came to doubts and practical learning was taken good care of. Not that I particularly know of. But I heard that were many research initiatives taken by the University. Electives were not good. I have never ever met my Yoga Teacher . Honestly.

Internships Opportunities

I havent heard of any internships that were provided in the college. You have to make your own way. Stipends depend on the amount of hard work you put in . The college in no way will help you in getting internships or stipends.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement scenario of SRM is same as any private university across the nation: Average. Not all companies who come, leave with good packages offered, and I have heard around 97 percent of students in our campus get a job. The major companies which have visited the campus are Cisco,Amazon, Flipkart, and many other top IT industries offer high amounts to selected people. Rest assured TCS and WIPRO are the mass recruiters who take off an entire section in one whip or maybe more. The average package was 6 lakhs per annum .

College Events

4

There are lots of clubs that host many technical fests . They werent very big. However AARUSH is a very big Fest hosted in the main campus . In our campus no fests as big as those are held. The average footfall in AARUSH was huge as all the local universities, took part in it. The authorities do contribute a lot to make a fest such a big one.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I wouldnt call it too affordable. It takes 2 lakhs per year for the B.Tech Degree and it varies from campus to campus. I payed 2 lakhs per year for 4 years. Which totals to.8 lacs. 62000 for hostel 60000 for the Canteen. 10000 For Registration Fees for Admission. we also paid 3075 Rupees for semester examination Which I guess you have to pay for each semester exam.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college provides scholarships to the top SRMJEE rankers and toppers getting 9.8 CGPA and above. Other than that no other scholarships are provided by the university,. The college wil in turn help you in taking loans which you might be interested in. There are many types of loans for academics and residential.

Campus Life

3.5

The extracurricular activities are very poor. You have to rely on other fests or Technical Workshops. The college wont provide any kind of extracurricular atmosphere for exploration of inner talents.Facilities are poor too. No matter how much effort you put in you always have to rely on outside oppurtunities. Sadly the college wont provide you any.

Hostel Facilities

3

I reside in the hostel. Trust me. It takes more than patience and endurance to survive in a hostel like this. It doesnt come at par with the amount of money you pay for the hostels. The hostel rooms consist of 3 beds per room, well the beds resemble hospital beds to be precise. And it comes with irregularly sized cupboards for you and your friends. The Bathrooms are dirty and most of the time you will be welcomed with foul smell as cleaning is done on a weekly basis. Some of the Bathrooms are broken and have not been repaired for a very long time. The rooms are mostly uncomfortable and will suffocate you for the first few months. Well its suffocating most people still now. The lift of the hostel will not be working most of the time. So good luck if your room is in or above the 5th floor. The rooms will be three sharing for the Non AC rooms, whereas for AC rooms the sharing may go upto 12 sharing rooms. There are 3 buildings namely BH 1,2,3. I paid 62000 for the Hostel rooms . The food in the mess will be terrible for the first few months. After that you will adapt to it. But, if you are a North Indian and a foodie, it will be terrible to the day you decide to cut your tongue off. There are a variety of South Indian delicacies which try and sometimes succeed in impressing your taste buds. But, some people wont like the taste of it at all. SRM doesnt have any PG's at all.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni has a more or less good connection with the students. But very few meetings are held and the college didnt have a proper platform for student alumni interaction. The alumni dont have much in contribution to the overall development of the college.

Exam Structure

The exams were very frequent. To be precise we suffered through 2 cycle tests and a Semester exam in just 5 months. You may at first think that I am just lazy but trust me. Its tiring. It also includes Model Exams, Assignments, lab exercises etc etc. SRM takes a lot of tests to make sure you are studying continuously and tirelessly. You gonna lay in bed tired the week after the exams get over instead of hitting the beach. And before you wake up, your alarm will notify you about the Exam you have tomorrow. Its that fast.

Faculty

4

The faculty is very well experienced and will guide anyone. They are not partial, and will clarify your doubts as long as you dont argue with them. They are interactive to a point where they would interest you in a topic in which you cannot even try to remain awake. Well there always are exceptions, and there are teachers who wont fall in any category stated above. You have to be terribly lucky not to fall prey to them . The standard of teaching is quite good and and they complete the syllabus in time even if they have to take extra classes for that. And they will pay attention to every little detail in the syllabus. They will make you solve Exercises given at the back of the book which may seem irritating at first, but will be helpful before the exam. They will give you assignments which if you do diligently may help you answer questions in your cycle tests or may even help you in your university exams.
