Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Food Process and Engineering because my main's rank was not that good and due to being one of the top colleges I selected it. The student ratio is 1:6.Each faculty is well qualified in their subjects. Their teaching method is quite well. Term exam is being conducted within 2 months approx and it is not that difficult to pass this exam.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are not that much good for non-tech students. There is a body of seniors which helps juniors prepare for internships and placements. CGPA is a big issue among students as it is very difficult to maintain their CG for internships. Mostly it is due to grade back due to attendance criteria.
Placement Experience
From 6th semester student is allowed to participate in campus placements. Almost every kind of Indian and foreign company (including companies like Google and Microsoft) visits the campus. The highest package of this year was 80LPA on campus and 1.8 CPA off campus. It was around 12LPA on average. Almost 90+ per cent of students use to place. I plan to do a job after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Approx 1lakh is the total fee for one semester including hostel and mess fee. For SC and ST students, they are not required to pay tuition fees. Also for a family income of less than one lakh, there is a full fee waiver. For annual income up to 3 lahks 2/3 of tuition fee being reduced and for upto 5lakh 2/3 is being reduced. Also, there are banks like SBI on campus which provide education loans at minimum interest rates. For Btech students, there are not any campus jobs in my view.
Campus Life
Campus life is too good. There are a total major 4 fests in a year which include Innovision(tech fest), Vridhi(Sports fest), Cosmos(Cultural Fest), and NITRUTSAV(Student activity fest). Also, there is a celebrity night each year. Also, there are garden fests and Hall day fests at each Hostel. The classrooms are quite well and every piece of equipment is available for teaching. The library consists of almost all the books that a student requires. Sports facilities are not that much good on campus. Club culture is the soul of NITR. It should be ranked at the top in India. There are a total of 30+ clubs in college. There is an ICS(Institute Counselling Service) on campus for better mental health of students.
Hostel Facilities
In the first year, each student has to share a room with another student. Each room consists of a fan, a tubelike, two beds, two tables and two chairs. Meal quality is good and the test depends upon student to student. Registration is not required for the hostel it is already provided by the college. Hostel rent is affordable.
Admission
One has to clear the Jee Mains exam to get admission to NIT Rourkela. Application forms can be found on the NTA website. The application fee is 650 Rs for each attempt. Reservation is being offered according to the guidelines of the Indian Govt.
