Entrance Preview
IHM JEE was the joint entrance examination and I scored AIR 767. I chose IHM Pusa over IHM Mumbai or any other top IHM because of its better placement track record, exposure to the hotel industry and the curriculum offered.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is excellent when it comes to imparting hotel ethics, knowledge and etiquette. Detail is being given to practical training and knowledge with equal importance to Theory lectures.
Internships Opportunities
Around 10-12 hotels came for selecting students for internship. Hotels like Taj, Oberois, The Lalit, The Park, Radisson etc visited our campus for shortlisting interns.Training had a superb atmosphere with a true first hand experience.I was with The Park Hotels and fee lucky to be there and experience the actual hotel industry. Dealing with the guests from class A to class C was exceptional and also received accolades form the hotel management. I also got a chance to serve Indian team who visited the hotel for a promotional event. I used to draw a stipend of INR 750 per month.
Placement Experience
Placements @ Pusa has always been a high point of the college. Over a period of 3 months starting October to January we had as many as 40 plus small and big companies visiting our campus placements. Some of the major brands who visited and hired Management Trainees from our batch of 140 students were: The TajThe Oberois, ITC, The Leela Group, The Park Hotels, The Lalit, Starwood Hotels, Accor hotels, Four Seasons Hotels. The total students received one or more offer letters ( MT/HOT) were around 125 plus with a package ranging somewhere between INR 12000 PM to INR 22000 PM.
College Events
Extra cultural activities are one of the major highlights of IHM Pusa. IHM Pusa has been regularly holding the National Annual IHM awards at its campus hosting different colleges, dignitaries and their faculty and students every year. Aside, college also conducts its annual function, students freshers and farewell at a large scale identifying and promoting young talents and bidding pass outs with all the love and blessings. 'Amarantha' is another one of the highlights of the college functions with several competitions such as Budding Chefs etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As every college has a limited seats in the hostels so does IHM Pusa. Hostels for every batch cater to around 10-15% of the students. Hostel rooms are decent with a provision of all basic amenities within the rooms. The food in the mess is also a standard with a cyclic menu. It is hygenic, tasty and well preserved. The hostel fees during my time was close to INR 30000-INR 35000 for an year which seemed quite reasonable and decent. Apart from the hostel rooms, students also had an option of staying the PG- near by local rented rooms with or without the facility of food. The same was available from INR 2000 to INR 5000 per month without food.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans are available for IHM Pusa from several banks.Scholarships is something every students aim for and so did we. IHM has a lot of scholarships to be given every year which could start from INR 2500 to INR 15000. This was truely based on the academics.
Campus Life
The ratio for male to female students was 5:2. The college got a mixed bag of students which largely was due to its coordinates. Being located in Delhi- the centre of India , primarily North India, PUSA attracted students from different regions of North India , be it Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Hmachal Pradesh, Bihar or Chhatisgarh. Location wise IHM Pusa is centrally located to these places and is also one of the better colleges from all these states. One can easily notice a student diversity in every class. I am proud to be a part of IHM Pusa who has been an epitome of diversity with students from different home tongue, sex, religion, creed and economic status stayed and learned under one roof happily.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors have been really our saviors. I am sure freshers carry a totally different and negative prerogative about the seniors but here it was not exactly the same. In most of the seniors one could easily find their FPG- Friend , Philosopher and Guide, however its imperative of you to interact with them to understand them better and also making yourself open to what they say, teach and explain you.The Alumni network for PUSA has been great. Even today there are events where seniors are called to the college to share their industry experience and practical life with the faculty and the current students. It is because of the strong network and alumni base that today also I can call up any senior for any kind of technical advise or information. They are ready to share what they have learnt.
Faculty
The teaches are full of information and experience to transfer to students and teach exactly the way it will be required in a practical atmosphere.
