Course Curriculum Overview

4

My course is Btech Electrical Engineer. It is a core branch we all know. I had chosen this course because, after graduation under this course, there are many Government Job opportunities with a good salary. The faculty of my branch is well-educated. Some are Ph.D. holders. The faculty members of my branch are good. Exams difficulty is average not much difficult.

Internships Opportunities

3

There are many internship opportunities as companions came for placements as well as internships with stipends. So a student can get the opportunity to be placed or get an internship. Also, a student can get an internship locally in Ludhiana as it is an industry hub of Punjab. A student should do projects on the field in which he wants to work so that placement can be easily done. A project is a plus point in getting placement.

Placement Experience

3

There are placements in the college every year. A student is eligible for campus placement in the 7th semester. Different companies visit colleges like Samsung, L&T, Future First, Denso, etc. The percentage of students placed is about 30-35 %. The highest package is 12 lakh and the lowest package is 3 lakh. Actually, for IT and CSE, more companies came but not for core branches like Electrical, and mechanical.

Fees and Financial Aid

I got admission in 2019 under the fee waiver scheme and my fee was 27000. Without fee waiver, scheme fees were 55000. So it was a big save in fees under fee waiver. There is not much hike in fees. Even semesters have less fees than odd semesters. Hostel fees are 11000 per semester. There are different scholarships available that a student can apply for. If a student will be unable to pay semester fees at a time because of any financial conditions or any other problem then he/she can write an application to the principal to extend the period of paying fees. Campus placements are there with a good average package of 4 lakh.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life is nice, it's full of enjoyment, happiness, and knowledge-gaining experience. There are annual fests, Tech fest called Apex, Anand Utsav, Hackathon, and many different activities conducted in the college every year. There is a library having books that are limited in stock. Different journals are also available. There are different sports in the college like Cricket, Hockey, Football, volleyball, lawn tennis, etc. There are many clubs and groups run by students which are ISTE, NSS, Ncc, etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel for the first year is nice with attached bathrooms. But 2-4 year hostels are very old and filthy. Also, there are no attached bathrooms. But hostel life is more enjoyable. There are not many restrictions in Hostel. I enjoyed the hostel life a lot. Meal quality is average. As in a week 3-4 days having a good meal like paneer, rajma, etc. But not every day we get a good meal especially chapatis are raw and without ghee. There are also pgs. available near the college with normal rent.

Admission

I have taken admission in Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in 2019. I have got admission through the Punjab Technical University admission counseling. I got admission under a fee waiver seat which was a big benefit. I recommend every student first try to get admission through PTU, if a seat will not be allotted through it, then try college counseling.

The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
