Course Curriculum Overview

4

I choose this course because of factors like my own interest, the trend of CS and I was eligible. The faculty is very good, teachers are well qualified, and their ratio is around 1:10. Teachers' cooperation is also good but sometimes teaching is not reliable. You can't get through the whole semester just relying on teachers. Assignments are not practical, they are just for internal marks and formality purposes. But the Curriculum is quite good, it is in accordance with the Washington Accord, and our department is NBA accredited. The frequency and timing of exams are fine. You will have end-semester external exams and two times sessionals in a semester for internal.

Internships Opportunities

3

TCS, Infosys, Argusoft, Mahindra, etc. companies come up with their internship + job placements and stipend is around 8k - 15k. Less number of internships are cracked due to teachers only focusing on exams and marks they don't guide students properly about the industry and skills required to get an internship. Need of proper awareness programs or sessions is required.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students become eligible in the 7th sem for college placements. The college placement record is quite good, although it has not achieved 100% placement yet. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Stylumia, Chicmic, Argusoft, Mahindra, Honda, etc visited our campus for hiring. Around 60-70 % of students get placement annually.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees structure contains exam fees, and tuition fees which are around 47-48k per semester for the general seat. If you choose the hostel you will have to pay an additional hostel fee of around 14k rent + mess(1.5-2k monthly) + security. If you avail reservation in SC/ST you will get benefits from the government and your whole expense will be around 6-7 k If you got a fee waiver then you will be relieved from tuition fees. Job: I got placed in a Mohali-based company with a package of around 4-5 LPA.

Campus Life

4

Life is quite good at GNDEC, Ludhiana. There is an annual function where the college invites singers for live performances which are conducted between Feb-mar. There we have various sports events, tech fests, Environment fairs, cultural events, etc. In college, there are various societies like ISTE, etc which conduct various knowledge events, quizzes, competitions, etc. Library Infrastructure is one of the best things to demonstrate in college. It has a central library which has around 1 lakh books.

Admission

The admission process was quite smooth. I gave JEE mains exam and on the basis of which I got admission in my first admission round. There you will be offered several B.tech programs like Computer Science and Engineering, IT, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc. You can get admission in two ways through PTU University and Direct admission. To avail of reservation benefits or scholarships you need to get through PTU counseling.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
