Course Curriculum Overview
I like the course and its interesting applications. The faculty-to-student ratio is around 1 to 20, but it varies from department to department, and in class size. the faculty at IIT Bombay are mostly very renowned in their area of research most of them have Ph.D. degrees from foreign institutes or very well-known institutes of the world. and at IIT Bombay there is a well-defined grading and exam policy and every professor tries to stick to that. mostly it depends on professor to professor how he is going to assess the student some takes exam periodically some gives homework, and assignments most of the courses have and mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam.
Internships Opportunities
Lots of big companies come with internship opportunities and offered good stipends also. quant companies like Jane street, and Optiver offers 10-14 lakhs per month of stipend and generally pick up the 4-5 brainiest of the students at IIT Bombay. Big Tech giants like google, Microsoft, Ola, Adobe, Microsoft, etc. hire a lot of students. there is a good chance to grab an internship in a good company in your field of interest.
Placement Experience
Students can sit for placement in their 4th year given some academic criteria are full-filled by students. A lot of companies around 230 this year (2023), including MnC come for placement. to name a few big companies are- Jane street, Optiver, Google, Facebook, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, BCG, sony, Samsung, Jaguar, etc, etc. The highest package for the year 2022 was 4 crore, around 25 students got 1 cr package, and the average salary was 23 lakhs. The chances of getting a placement from IIT Bombay are for sure better than any other institution. My plans are to get into any of the big companies I mentioned above :).
Fees and Financial Aid
since IITs are government colleges so there are various scholarships available for students with lower economic classes. the fee structure is something like this for each semester: * around 1 lakh tuition fees * 15 thousand associated facility charges if you are opting for a hostel: * 15 thousand * 25 thousand mess charges all about the scholarships can be found here-iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/scholar.jsp * Merit cum Means (MCM): depending upon family income 50 to 100% tuition fees with extra charges will be returned, also required some grade criterion * remission of fees: full remission of tuition fees, no grade criterion
Campus Life
Campus life is great, large campus area is spread across 545 acres, also has Powai lake, and Sameer hill, and is full of trees and beautiful gardens. the environment and overall vibe are great. The IIT Bombay cultural fest Mood Indigo is Asia's largest cultural festival and each year it hosts renowned artists and personalities from all around the globe, lakhs of students from different colleges come to participate and showcase their talents in the plethora of events/competitions conducted by mood indigo. IIIT Bombay's Techfest is also a well-known festival conducted by IITB students each year, in which various tech events like robot wars, car expo, talks by famous personalities in tech fields, lecture series, competitions, and many more events. there's a saying that "you name it we have it" so all kind of sport facility is available here at IIT Bombay.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is quite good, in your first 3 years of stay at IIT Bombay you will be sharing a room with one more person generally from your department, and in the 4th year, you will be having individual rooms. Hostel rooms have a 24-hour internet connection, water, and electricity. hot water supply is there all day. Mess food is good in general, but it won't taste like home :).
Admission
For admission, a student should have at least 75% on board in class 12. The JEE exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) and all the information gets available on their official website i.e. nta.ac.in, the application fee is around 1000 INR. the exam is conducted 2-3 times, and the best score of the candidate is used for evaluation and you have to enroll for each session separately, the first session exam is conducted in January-February month. There are two phases of the entrance exam first you have to clear jee main and then you will be allowed to sit for jee advance. some seats are reserved for OBC and SC/ST candidates hence the IIT cut-off criteria are significantly low for reservation candidates. the admission process is fair and good.
