- Huge campus; very much to explore in and around; blessed with greenery and wildlife; unlike old IITs we are far away from the hustle and bustle of city
- Busy campus life; we are a closed knit community of around 1.8k students;
- We are known for our coding culture; Coding contests are held regularly; every student has equal opportunity to switch his career path to software irrespective of his major
Dislikes
- Very far away from the city. Only two buses that connect it to Indore.
- Unlike old IITs like IIT Delhi and IIT Guwahati, despite having a huge campus, Use of cycle is redundant. All important buildings (though few) are near
- Number of companies that come for and non-circuital branches are less.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is quite up-to-date. The courses in the first year are common for all branches and cover the basic subjects from all branches. The courses in the rest of the B.Tech years specialize in or are related to mechanical. I chose this course because my interests were more inclined toward physics, robotics, etc. The faculty-to-student ratio is 14:1. All the faculties are well-versed in their topics and all have Ph.D. in their domain. Almost every course is supplemented by a practical/lab course. Term exams are conducted twice every semester (there are a total of 8 semesters in a 4 yr course). Although, you can pass the course by scoring well in at least one of the term exams (mid-sem or end-sem), merely passing does not grant you full credits.
Internships Opportunities
Internship season starts at the inception of the 5th semester. Following companies visited offered SDE and related roles internships for people in all branches - MathWorks, Goldman Sachs, Zomato, newzera, razor pay, Accenture, Walmart, fractal, trilogy innovations, ITRA, etc. Big companies like Google, Samsung, and Amazon came for cs and electrical branch students only. Other companies came for managerial and financial roles. You can also opt to do summer or winter research internships under professors.
Placement Experience
Our placement stats are quite good compared to other second-generation IITs. Companies visit the campus twice - once in the 5th sem for internships and in the 7th sem for job placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee is constant and is equal to Rs. 1 lakh per semester. Accommodation charges per semester are Rs. 16k. Mess fees per semester are Rs. 16k and are subject to slight changes according to the mess policy. Including other charges, the total fees per semester are around Rs. 14,00,000. You are eligible for financial assistance if you fall under the reservation or EBC category. There are many other govt scholarships also. You can earn a stipend from the on-campus internships, which start in the summer break at the end of the 3rd year.
Campus Life
Life is campus is quite happening all year round. You would probably be busy in conducting or participating in intra and inter-college tech, sports, or cultural competitions and events. There are a variety of societies and clubs you could be a part of. There are three different committees that govern the functioning of tech, cult, and sports activities. All these clubs and committees are entirely run by students. Regular elections are held for positions of responsibility. Our sports infrastructure has developed quite a lot in the past 2 years. We now also have a functioning swimming pool on campus. Regular sports tournaments are conducted to foster the culture of sports. Other than that, entrepreneurship cell and ted events are also conducted annually. IIT Indore also conducts the largest annual techno-cultural fest of central India - Fluxus. Classrooms have world-class amenities. Some of the student-run clubs that I am a part of are - the cynaptics (ml) club, quiz club, and tt club.
Hostel Facilities
Our hostel facilities may arguably be the best among all the IITs. Every individual has a single room. Five students share a single flat, with 2 toilets 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 balcony, and 1 living room. There are 4 boys and 1 girl hostel (excluding 1 hostel for married people). Every hostel has a tt table, a foosball table, a badminton court, a tv, a newspaper, and a journal stand. There are CCTVs all over the place, except the inside of the room. We have 24/7 Wi-Fi, electricity, and a drinking water supply (in every room). We have a common central mess with the option of two caterers. The mess food has been quite good at best and tolerable at worst. The accommodation fee is around 16k per semester.
