Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose food technology as I was passionate about learning the science and manufacturing procedure of commercial food and packaging. The course is very interesting as it deals with chemistry, mass and heat transfer, various legislations and manufacturing procedures, and defects in the product. Our department comprises of nearly 170 students including 2nd 3rd and 4th year and 40 students in pg. The number of faculty is around 15. So we can approach any faculty at any point in time for doubt regarding their domain. Exams are conducted once in 90 days and it is called continuous assessment tests. Only 2 internals are conducted and a portion is split into two and conducted. The test is conducted for 60 marks are pass mark is 30. It is quite difficult unless you study you can't pass the exam. One final semester is conducted and it is for 100 marks at the end. All the facilities completed MTech and a few faculty completed Ph.D. also. The way of teaching is too good as they use PowerPoint presentations.

Internships Opportunities

3

The name of the companies offering internships is meghraj in Bangalore with a stipend of 7k per month and Intersnack in thuthukudi is offering 9k per month. The designation is production manager. We will be given certain tasks to manage the overall production.

Placement Experience

3

From the 6th semester, students are ready to attend placements. A lot many companies visited our campus and the highest package is 10 lakh per annum and the average package is 4 lakh per annum. The percentage of students getting placed is around 90%. My plan after my degree is I got placed in a company and I am yet to start my career over there. If you opt for food technology you can also go for IT placements if you are interested in it. There are a lot of higher study options available. One must plan wisely that they are opting for IT placements or core or higher studies or government exams wisely. They will be given training accordingly.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees collected are 100000 per year excluding the booking fee. If we want an additional book we want to pay for it separately. The bus fees are separate and completely depend on the distance traveled. The hostel fee is 75000 per year which includes maintenance, mess fees, etc. The food in the hostel is worth the money and the rooms and corridors are neatly maintained. There is no fee hike in the past 5 years regarding tuition fees. The bus fee is hiked 2000 as there is an increase in petrol price. There are various scholarships, and bc/mbc scholarships are availed by the government of Tamilnadu. The sc/st scholarships are also given to concerned students by the government of Tamilnadu. An extra scholarship amount is credited if the student is staying in a hostel. Post merit scholarship from the central government is also available here.

Campus Life

3

Annually 2 tech fests take place. One is the Infratech fest in which students from our college participate and win prizes. Another one is inter tech fest in which various college students come and win prizes. There is number of books and journals available in the department library and the common library is also there. There are various clubs to initiate various events and activities for students. Fox example quiz club, Rotaract club, music club, NSS, NCC, Tamil mandram, environmental club. These clubs are run by students and they conduct various events for their good fare and development.

Admission

I applied through Tamilnadu engineering counseling conducted by the state government for a seat in private colleges. As my cut-off is 162.5 I got a seat at kongu Engineering college. The fee for counseling students is 100000 per year excluding book fees. Sports quota is also available there if you are a sports person. If someone got selected they will be provided free hostel facilities and the greatest concessions will be given in tuition fees. There is a trust called kongu Vellalar trust which helps people who completed their schooling in govt schools in Tamil medium availed special scholarships. There will be minimal fees to be paid. My college also provides government scholarships based on castes like bc, bc, and separate scholarships are given to sc st students by the government of Tamilnadu. You can also apply for central government posts merit scholarships. The admission is purely based on your score, if your score is high possibility of getting a seat is high in counseling.

Other Applied Colleges

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology - [BIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Food Technology)

It is difficult to commute and placements were far better in kongu than bannari

No, I didn't write any entrance exam. I have joined my college through Management Quota. I pursued BE Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the year 2015. During the joining period Management offered me some courses like BE(CSE,EEE, CIVIL) etc, but i have mindset to study BE-ECE(Electronics & Communication Engineering) So i requested to give this course but they refuse to give because of overfilled of that course. Then i have joined BE-EEE because both courses are merely same. I have studied & completed happily now.
