Remarks
There is no entrance exam. JEE mains/ advanced scores are not considered. Admissions are purely based on merit. Only 12th CBSE or state board marks are taken into account. Multiple merit lists are published during the admission period due to many students applying for the course as a safety net in case they do not get admission to an engineering college. There is no management quota whatsoever.
Course Curriculum Overview
Me and most people in my class chose this course for its excellent offerings in the field of astrophysics. Even though you get a BSc physics degree you get a lot of exposure to astrophysics if you wish to do specialization in the field. Students to faculty ratio of the physics department are below average which is definitely not ideal. Most of the faculty is good but a few bad apples exist everywhere.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are big. Most of the professors have ongoing research where you will be accepted easily. If you want research opportunities outside the college, there are provisions for that as well, due to Ferguson's ties to Pune University. Your professors' contact will also help you to land a research internship in industries. One of the biggest ongoing projects is SWAN in which students built and interpret data from a radio telescope.
Placement Experience
Placements for the physics department are very minimal as most students opt to go for higher studies. There are huge research opportunities. There are still few companies that hire for low level tech jobs with average package of 3 LPA
Fees and Financial Aid
Ferguson College has grant in aid seats which means the basic fees are pretty minimal. But canteen things (administration related) such as late fees or or the fees for making transcripts are outrageous. All the commonly known scholarships such as the inspire scholarship are available. Campus jobs are just for namesake.
Campus Life
One of the best things Ferguson College is the campus. It offers a huge spread out campus at the heart of the city. Has beautiful architecture and great culture among the students. The annual fest of the physics department is called Gravity and has been winning the award for the best fest for years. Library is pretty big but has many wierd rules making it extremely hard to make use of it. Classroom have digital teaching aid available. There are number of clubs and student run clubs one of my personal favourite is astro club. There is also a social outreach and enabling centre doing excellent charity work .
Other Applied Colleges
