Remarks

To apply for admission, you have to pass out at least 10th. Then you can fill out the JEECUP form which generally comes in Feb-March and then after the result will come and based on your marks and college cutoffs you can take admission. Reserved cutoff can also help in admission as there is some reserved seat in college and I avail myself of that benefit too. The admission process is a little longer when I took admission but now it's been quite easy and all things are generally online which means you need not go to college for every work.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

There is no specific reason why I choose this course. Based on my marks I got this course and I was happy with the course. I don't know about it nowadays but when I was in college the major proportion was of boys i.e, 80:20. The faculty was ok but it can be slightly better as there were not many teachers for specific subjects and workshops. But overall experience and knowledge of the faculty were quite nice as they had passed Btech and some even Mtech. Term exams were always on time and results too.

Placement Experience

2

If talking about the eligibility to appear in placement then you have to be the student of final year( 5and 6 semesters). I too appeared in the placement exam. Several popular companies like ACC CEMENT, ULTRA TECH, TECH MAHINDRA, etc came during my course duration. Not many little amounts of students were only selected in placement and I was not one of them so the placement percentage was quite low (10-15). After passing the course I choose better to prepare for competitive exams like SSC JE, RRB JE, and others.

Fees and Financial Aid

Generally, government colleges have low fees as compared to private ones. Per year fees were approximately 11k-12k when I was studying. I didn't see any hike in fees structure during my time. The scholarship is the best part of the diploma course when you are studying in especially government colleges as you can apply for a scholarship, everyone does and your whole fees will be returned along with the scholarship. When I was in college I applied for a scholarship and got it every time. Thanks to the Up government scholarship program.

Campus Life

4

The annual fest had been organized for each year when I was in college and it was generally organized in the winter ( Dec-Jan). Sometimes tech fest was also organized but not at regular intervals. Talking about library facilities I didn't borrow any books from the library but my mates did and I used theirs. It was easy to issue any book, major course-related books were available but quantities were a little less. Every year's games were conducted just after the annual fest in winter. My friends and I particularly participated in some games and won some medals too. When I took admission I was not familiar with my mates. Classmates had created a group on what's an app and then we communicated and became more familiar with one another. Group also helped in providing important information about the college, exams, seminars and several important things. There were not any specific clubs but we meet or communicate with one another through Facebook and WhatsApp.

Placement Experience:

Our study is important but the most important thing is the placement, which makes your career better. Our college has campus placement and many companies visit and hire our students. In many branches, not all the students get the placement but the students who are toppers and who are good in their study get the placement. I also dream to get a placement so that I can get a job quickly after my diploma. For that, I am really working hard and improving my skills, knowledge, and my scores. Tata Motors, Layam Group, Myntra, Bajaj, and other companies come to our college for the placement. In the final year of our course, this opportunity comes to us and we are very much awaited for that.

Positives Beautiful Campus : This might seem irrelevant to some, but the natural beauty is what comes to your rescue when you feel you have hit rock-bottom. Single Rooms : People have different opinions about this, but I have come to respect this particular facility at our campus. Location of campus (away from city) : This is a very subjective issue, but I think that the location of campus (distance from city) leaves us lesser distractions. Negatives :- Weak Alumni Base : Although it is definitely possible to achieve any goal in life without assistance from alumni, but their experience can definitely make the journey simpler for many. However, lately, many alumni of IIT Guwahati are connecting back with the student community and I am grateful to them for taking out their time for interacting with us. Single Rooms : Yes, I covered this in positives as well, but I think I must point out the cons of this facility. Students, especially in the first year, might feel lonely and find it hard to interact with others. A shared room provides you with one or more readily accessible friends whose privacy you can breach without asking, from day one. Mess : However the Mess System is undergoing a lot of changes, this is one aspect that has a lot of scope for improvement.
