My experience of IIT Madras

My parents are Ph.D. scholars from IIT Madras and I always wanted to study in the institute my parents studied in. My childhood was filled with the stories of IIT. After completing my B.Tech. I studied very hard and cleared my GATE exam. After sitting through the counseling session, I got admission to the institute. The admission fee is Rs.150 and my application was filled out and submitted online.

Subjects we study in the classes are carefully formulated and structured according to the level of an IIT. No guest speakers have been invited till now on the campus. Class size was kept normal so that our lecturers could focus on students easily and made sure that they understand the concepts well. The teaching method adopted by the lecturers showed the experience they had in teaching students.

84% of the students got placed in the placements of 2021. The number is less as the students who sat for placements were limited in number. Rs. 70 LPA was the highest CTC offered to the students. Larsen & Toubro emerged as the top recruiter of the week. Intel Microsoft, ICICI Bank, Tata Projects, Vedanta Limited, ON Semiconductors, Bajaj Auto, Samsung were some of the participants of the placement week.

Financial aid in the form of scholarships and Bank loan is provided/assisted by the institute. Institute Free Studentship, Merit Cum Means Scholarship, SC/ST Scholarship are some of the scholarships to cover the cost of Rs. 4.18 lakhs (course fee). Form filling is separate for the students who are willing to apply for a scholarship followed by a reward in the form of concession in tuition fee.

I have not visited the campus even once in this one year due to the pandemic. I miss the college life I always wanted. In a few months, I hope that I will be able to visit the campus and enjoy the life I always dreamt of. Although, I attended some of the online seminars and workshops organized by the officials. Our lecturers made sure that we attended each of the events and they were all very well organized.
