3 years journey in Basirhat College

For the BA General course, you have to pass the West Bengal higher secondary exam with a minimum of 45% marks in class 12. Admission is based on the marks. So 45% marks will not be enough. If you want to study here you have to get a minimum of 60% marks. A lot of seats are available but a lot of students apply every year. More numbers you get in your class 12 marks more chance to appear in merit lists. If you belong to a minority like SC/ST/OBC you have some seats reserved. One more thing supposes if you take geography history & Sanskrit as a general subject you must have these subjects in class 12. The admission form is on our college website. Once you appear on the merit list you have to pay the admission fee which is around Rs 2500 and offline document verification is needed.

I wanted to be a graduate so that I can appear on most government exams That's why I have chosen the BA General course. For every subject, we had 3-4 professors so in total we had 10-12 professors. All the professors are highly qualified. They used to take regular classes. Most of our professors took interactive classes. They were very supportive. Our department batch was big almost 140 students. So student-faculty ratio was approximately 13 students per professor. The exams are not difficult to pass as this is a general course we did not have very much pressure.

The college fee is budget-friendly for all types of people. For every odd semester, we had to pay around Rs 2000 and for every even semester, the fee was Rs 600 approx. So the total cost of study in all six semesters is more and fewer than Rs 7500. Here college does not provide any financial help but many scholarships like Nabanna Scholarship, Kanyashree for girls, OASIS scholarship is available. But you need to have a minimum decent percentage of marks to get the scholarship. This is not a technical college. So we do not even expect any direct job opportunities from college.

Few cultural programs happen every year. Especially in winter, one big cultural function is organized by our college. Many students from different departments used to take part in this. We had a big playground named "Prantik Maidan". There every December a cultural fest is organized which stay for 3-4 days. Many celebrities also come here. I have got all my books and study material from our library. It is very clean and full of silence. It is ideal for long study. Our department classroom was very big as it has the capacity for almost 100 students. Yes, we have a student union group in our college.
