Honest opinion about Basirhat college

After completing HS if you want to study English at Basirhat college the eligibility for this course is very straight. You have to have a minimum of 50% marks in higher secondary exams. And you can come from science commerce and arts background. College does not take any entrance. The complete admission process is merit-based only. After completing HS(10+2) you have to fill up the form from the college's official website. The merit will be created based on the best of 4 subject marks you have got in HS. The average of 4 subjects plus your Madhyamik exam marks will be deciding factor. The more marks you got the higher your chance of getting admission. Minimum 70 per cent marks are required for admission. After you appear on the merit list initial admission fee is Rs 2700. Yes reservation seats are available

In my higher secondary exam, I have got the highest marks in English. So I have chosen this course because it was easy to get a chance in English honours. We have around 70-80 students in our department. And we have 7 professors in the English department. So our student-faculty ratio is around 10 students per professor. Faculties are quite good and qualified. Some professors teach us beyond our syllabus. Most of our faculties took regular online classes. Our faculties have done PhD or M.Phil. Most important they are student-friendly. We have the CBCS system so we had to pass 6 semesters to become graduates.

In our college fees are very low. When we take admission in our college the fess is around 2600 Rs. Then for 2nd,4th and 6th sem the fee was around 600 and for odd semester like 3rd 5th, the fess was around 1300 Rs. However, the total costs are well below 10,000. Our college does not give any kind of financial help. But we have many options for scholarships. Swami Vivekananda scholarship was given to boys and girls. For science students, the amount is Rs 18000 per year and for art students like English amount is Rs15,000. For girls, there is a different scholarships name Kanyashree. For SVMCM you must have over 60% marks to renew. There is an OASIS scholarship that pays around Rs 3500 per year. This scholarship is only for minority students. Apart from this many private scholarships like TATA, JINDAL are available. You can apply for multiple scholarships in our college

We have many cultural programs were organized all around the year. We have celebrated fresher's program, Basanta Utsav( Holi), Saraswati Puja, Teacher's Day and many other things. Moreover, Independence Day, Rabindra Jayanti, Netaji Jayanti, Mother language day etc are celebrated in our seminar hall room. We have a very good library room where thousands of books are available and we have a study room. The entire room is air-conditioned. We can take any book home. Our classrooms are medium in size and very clean and airy because the windows and doors are quite big. We have a hostel facility and wifi facility on our campus. In front of our college, we have a very huge playground. We have different types of sports activities like cricket football, badminton and we have an annual sports program organized by college student union group. Many students from all department join here
