Remarks
I applied for VITEEE in 2020 but due to COVID-19, it was cancelled. So, I was admitted based on my 12th and JEE Main's score. The admission process was all online. Overall, it was a decent experience.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it has more scope in the future and I wanted to complete my master's degree with my bachelors. The faculty: student ratio varies in between classes, since VIT has an FFCS system, under which at the start of every semester(except first), you can choose your faculty and time slot to create your desired timetable. In general, for most core/technical classes, there were 40-50 students in each class, but for management or Humanities courses it can go upto 60-65. Generally, all Faculty(except lab assistants) will have a PhD. There are 3 exams in VIT each semester, namely CAT1, CAT2 and FAT. FAT is the end-semester test and will be conducted for 80 marks which will contribute 40% to your final grade. Similarly, both CATs will be conducted in between the semesters and is of 30 marks which will contribute 15% to your final grade. So, both CATs and FAT contribute 70% to your final grade(15+15+40). Rest 30 % is reserved for internal quizzes and assignments by Faculty.
Internships Opportunities
The college allows people to approach internships at any year. Especially, Pre-final year students are offered multiple internships from many MNC'S. Most of these Internships are paid with an avg stipend of 10000. A lot of students also get Pre-Placement Offers(PPOs) after their internship from the company.
Placement Experience
Students generally go for campus placement in their final or pre-final year. In 2020, 739 companies visit the campus and hired 4014 students. In 2020 batch, 1126 students got super dream offers while another 2513 students gor Dream offers. Average CTC for 2020 batch was 7.13 Lakh with highest CTC of 41.6 Lakhs. After, getting my degree, I am planning to go for a Software Developer job in a top Tech Company.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of programmes in VIT is pretty comparable to that of IITs. The administration clearly mentions how much you have to pay each year of your programme in your admission letter and they don't change it for you during the programme duration. VIT does have a financial scholarship scheme if your family income is less than 1 Lakh rupees and you are performing well. Also, if you get a good rank in VITEEE, you will get a scholarship.
Campus Life
The Library is pretty big and well equipped and a lot of students go there to study during exam weeks. Classrooms are also pretty big with amenities like projectors, digital screens etc. There are a LOT of clubs and societies in VIT Chennai. It has its own campus chapters for CodeChef, IEEE, Rotaract and many more organisations. IT also has a Debate society, Nature Society, Entrepreneur cell, Developer's clubs and several outreach societies like VITeach(where students volunteer to teach elementary kids in nearby communities for free). You will most certainly find some club/society to join here.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are pretty decent for hostels. You have the option to get a single room or have 2, 3 or 4 roommates. Boys and girls have separate hostels. Hostels have time limits so you have to be in them before 9 PM. Registration is done online. The mess food is also quite good and you get a variety of options. You can also choose from north/south, veg/non-veg and special mess. There are also a lot of cafeterias, food parks and eating spots on the campus.
