Reality of college and the industry

I didn't apply for any other college before applying to IHM, because I wanted to get into IHM as it is the best college for hotel management. I didn't avail of any quota. The admission criteria is on the basis of rank secured in the NCHMCT JEE exam. On basis of the rank there are three counselling rounds, this time it was brought down to two rounds where the seat gets alloted. I got AIR 1183, so I could easily get a seat in IHM Kolkata in the general category. I choose IHM Kolkata in my first round of counselling as my first option and I got it therefore, I didn't apply for the second round. Then, after the seat allotment, we had to submit our documents and we had to pay around 45000 to confirm the seat. Then, other procedures were done in physical verification, that is on the campus itself.

I choose hotel management as my career as it has a great opportunity of working abroad and the hospitality industry had a great future ahead as this industry is growing day by day. I choose BSC in hotel management, it is a 3 yr program, the value of a degree is more in this industry than the diploma. Having a degree is more advantageous. In our batch, we have around 320 students. The faculty of IHM Kolkata is highly qualified and very much experienced in this industry, they guide us really well. The term exams are absolutely on time and the passing criteria are 50% per subject. It's easy to pass here as the question paper is really good and practical oriented.

In our 3 years degree programme, we have our IT that is the Industrial training in the second year, it is a 4 months training offered by the college where students get exposure to the industry by working in the most well-known hotel chains in the country. The stipend offers from property to property and from the state. We are given assignments for every subject after a chapter is completed and it is to be submitted within a limited time frame. The marks get added to our semester practicals along with that of the practical marks.

IHM Kolkata provides 100% placement. Big brands and hotel chains come for campusing in the college. Hotel Chains like Oberoi, Taj, ITC, JW Marriott, etc. Brands like Calvin Klein, etc. come and offer jobs. The highest package offered is 360000 per annum. The average package is 200000. All students get placements. I have plans of either getting a good Management Trainee program in a big brand and going abroad.

This 3yr degree overall costs around 398000. The scholarship is based on marks and quotas. Students can even take a student loan for this course. IHM Kolkata provides good campusing also on-campus jobs. They give a 100% placement.

The campus life is really good. It is fun and exciting. IHM Kolkata organizes lots of events every year. Every type of book is available in the library. The classrooms are spacious and have smartboards. College also organizes many sports events and there is a football ground and basketball ground on campus. We have our college WhatsApp group both official and unofficial, and all the information and updates about the college are available on the college website and are updated regularly.
