A University with a sprawling campus on the beach side

Since, I was working as a project assistant in National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa in 2013. I always wanted to register a PhD under my guide Dr. Pawan Dewangan (Principal scientist), who is in NIO. I qualified GATE in 2015 with a decent score and I was allowed to register for a PhD in Marine science department of Goa University. I decided to register in Goa University primarily because it was near to the place where I was working, also it is one of the finest and reputed universities in Goa. The campus is beautiful and well maintained and located near several beaches. Apart from this the administrative process is very smooth unlike other state universities. I never faced any difficulty to carry out the formalities, the concerned people are very helping and kind. The marine science department produces several PhD's each year and faculties are also reputed.

Since, I was registered for a PhD, I had to appear for an entrance test conducted by National testing agencies or the university itself. However, even after one qualifies the entrance test admission in the course is only ascertained after the candidate qualifies their course work examination which is conducted one year after the registration. After admission is confirmed a PhD committee evaluates the progress of the research work every six months. For the research progress meeting the candidate has to present his/her work and submit a written report to the research committee. If the progress is not convincing the candidate has to reappear for another meeting to show the progress. Only after satisfactory progress the candidate is allowed to carry out further research.

As I have already mentioned that I was research scholar and my work place was NIO and not Goa university. I awarded a degree from the university and stayed in the campus for the last two years of my research.

The campus is lush green especially during monsoon one cannot find such serenity, peace and natural environment. Sports activities are conducted and fest are also organized annually. Although it is a state university there is very less influence of active politics on campus. As it is located in Goa and near to beaches one can guess the social life.
