Goa University: An amazing experience

The curriculum and the course outline along with my seniors and mutual people giving me insight towards influenced me towards choosing this course. The course itself is great and as taken all aspects into account for the overall development of a student for the field of Marine Sciences. The teaching methods of professors are great, they are great mentors for giving us good guidance and mentorship on future prospects

The yearly fees is around Rs 21750 With a 5000 rupees registration fee to be filled before the enrollment. The overall breakdown is mentioned in the university website as it keeps on changing, I'm unable to give an accurate estimate of the fees.

The social life and events here, are just amazing. From Plateunica which is the main fest of Goa University and other festivals that take place here provides for an overall amazing atmosphere making it a great time to learn more about the people around you during your stay at the university.

A hostel room has living space for 2 students with each student getting a study table, a bed, two chairs and a cupboard. The hostel fees is at Rs 9000 for the first year where 6000 is the hostel fees and 3000 is the safety deposit which is returned after the course is completed. The mess menu is great, there are a variety of options to choose from. The mess fees however changes from time to time and the prices are set based off the menu that is being provided by the caterers themselves.

The major setback of other universities was the lack of infrastructure and the availability of research institutes that luckily Goa University is close to, students can easily apply for internships and take up dissertation projects with the scientists at NIO and NCPOR as their guides.

The faculty in the department of Marine Sciences are excellent. Each and every professor are welcoming and highly respected in their field. They are great mentors shaping our minds and the level of understanding we have as students, pushing us to take opportunities and make good use of the facilities we have.

The hostel timings for mens and womens hostel are different. The curfew for women's hostel starts at 8.00 pm and for men's hostel starts at 8.30 pm. The night life is all in the main city of Panaji and some other cities like Anjuna and other places in North Goa which are the centre of all night life in Goa,as the campus is on a plateau. The transport around here is primarily based on the bus transport, unless you're bringing your own vehicle. There's a gym at our university which is only Rs.25 for students and Rs. 50 for staff. Lectures normally start at 9.30 am and end at 5.30 pm.
