Remarks
Getting into IIT was my dream. After completing 12th I decided to make my choice for IIT Madras as my relatives lived over there. The eligiblity criteria to apply was that the student should have scored a minimum of 60% in 12th class. Then the other step was of clearing the Jee Advance exams, before which I had to clear my Jee Mains. Then the last step was of registering for JoSAA counselling. I registered for the course offline by visiting the college campus only. I filled my admission form there and paid an apllpication fee of Rs 3,000.
Course Curriculum Overview
To make my career as a software engineer, I chose this course. The curriculum of the course is well set. We have 8 semesters in total and the knowledge of each semester plays a very important role in our practical works. Our faculty gives proper emphasis on both practical and theoratical knowledge. The faculty plays a very important role in shaping our minds and making us industry ready. The level of exam is a bit tough.
Placement Experience
Students in their fourth year are eligible to sit in campus placement. The percentage of students that get placement is 85%. Companies visiting campus for placement are ISRO, Wipro, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft, Flipkart, Intel etc. The highest salary package offered recently was Rs 82LPA, and the average package was of Rs 18LPA. I am also planning to sit in the campus placement and get placement in one of these companies.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I paid Rs 8,00,000 for my tution fee, but the total fees for the course sums up to Rs 10,00,000 when we add other charges in it. The fees is a bit expensive. The college provides fee hike policies like the economically backward students whose family income is less than Rs 1LPA will get full remission of the fees. The college also provided some scholarships like MCM scholarship given to meritorious students.
Campus Life
The campus of IIT is very beautiful and spacious. Facilities like hospital, banks, bus services, labs, labs, cafeteria, swimming pool etc. Library of the college is a five storey building that is fully stocked with books, journals, thesis, pamplates etc. There are different activity clubs like music club, comedy club, writing media club, quiz club etc. The college organizes different events and fests like Shaastra, Saarang, and the likes.
Hostel Facilities
I did not avail hostel services as I did not want to be in a hostel. I took a PG, which is about 2 km away from the college campus. The total amount I have to pay for the PG is Rs 8,000 per month along with food. Some girls from my class also live nearby. Environment around the campus is safe and I easily get public transportion facilities.
Admission
I had to undergo JEE Mains exam and after qualifying it there was JEE Advanced exam. Both the exams are tough as they are national level exams. I took coaching classes to prepare for theses exams and gave equal attention to all the subjects. Solving mock test papers and previous year question paper was also very helpful.
