Remarks

The admission process was quite smooth though time-consuming. I applied for most of the NITs and BITs. Considering the factors like fees, placement and location, I opted for NIT Jamshedpur. I availed the Home State (HS) quota under which every NITs admit half of the candidates from their own state only. The admission criteria are clearing JEE Mains with AIR under 25000 (Gen AI quota). The admission process includes documents verification and basic medical checkup.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course I chose is the oldest course in the college. It has decent placement records thanks to the location as an industrial hub. The faculty:student ratio is about 1:5. The faculty group is a mix of young as well as experienced. The term exams were very timely whatever may be the case. Those who study sincerely find it quite easy to pass except one or two papers.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are multiple companies and roles offered under internships. Some provide stipend while others are unpaid. One can opt for any as it's the industry experience that matters at the end. A project on energy efficiency can be carried out in Tata Power in order to utilize and save energy consumption.

Placement Experience

3.5

In most branches, students become eligible for campus placements from the 5th-6th semester. More than 100 companies visit every year with big names like Microsoft, Amazon, BPCL, HPCL, Tata Steel, etc. The number of offers to vary company by company year by year and branch by branch. Vedanta once offered 20+ and the very next year it offered just 3-4. The domestic highest package goes to the CSE branch of about 27 LPA by Amazon. The average package revolves around 8 LPA. Around 90% of students get placed but that varies branch by branch, say in the CSE branch it's 100% and some students even get multiple offers but in the CE branch it's about 40-50%. I am looking to go for MBA.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees hike policy is revised annually. Though it's always for the new batch who have to pay a bit higher than their seniors, the overall cost of the study is quite affordable. There are various scholarships by industries, organisations and government which is updated regularly on the official website of the college. Some are for branch toppers, some for lower category students, some for economically weak and some especially for female students. I got the job in Tata Steel with 10 LPA CTC.

Campus Life

4

Life at the campus is amazing. You will be engaged in a variety of things that you don't even realize when the 4 years of life passed. The annual cultural fest Culfest held in February and the tech fest Ojass in March. There a variety of books & journals available in the library. Also, it has gone digital for the last 4-5 years. Classrooms a bit old school but there are rapid changes to modernise them. There is a 3day long annual sports event where branch wise competitions are held from all the indoor games to outdoor sports and track events. There are plenty of social groups and clubs run by students like Sankalp, Team NSS, Team Daksh, Team Drift, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

Almost everything that is needed is provided in the room. Though there aren't any AC enabled rooms and one will find it hard to survive in summers. Meal quality is decent compared to other NITs and the menu is decided by the students only which are well balanced as per the residents of different states. One can register themselves during the admission process itself and it is very affordable also. There are rooms and PG available in nearby localities Adityapur, Bistupur, Sakchi, etc. but prefer staying in college hostels to avoid any rush.

Other Applied Colleges

The placement was average although fees was double.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

Placement Experience:

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.
