Course Curriculum Overview
First of all, choices for college and courses will depend on JEE Advanced score. Then we can go through college reviews, teachers, and seniors guidance. So after all these steps, I preferred to pursue Mining Engineering at IIT Dhanbad. Generally, IIT ISM Dhanbad was started in 1926 with mining engineering. After going to college I observed many things like - 1. Good Study environment, Sports, Gym, Many different types of clubs like drama club, art club, tech club, dance club, etc. 4. Good student coordination 5. Teachers are highly qualified and have experience. Particularly. the mining teachers are highly qualified and have practical experience ( Max. Teachers have Ph.D. and Field Knowledge). 7. Teaching techniques are very good like going through case studies, projects, etc. 8. 4 year B. tech in which there are 8 Semesters. In a semester there are mid-term/sem and end term/sem examinations and also quizzes, assignments. Exam papers are not too difficult. Papers are based on the taught syllabus.
Internships Opportunities
In most of the branches, there are high opportunities for Internships. IT, management and consultancy companies come for Internships. like KPMG, PWC, Microsoft, ..etc. Most of the students (who got an internship) get PPO( pre-placement offer). Core companies also come but in some branches less no. companies come. Projects are also given to students in the second year and final year. But I didn't get any on-campus Internship (due to covid there was no company).
Placement Experience
The placements are really good. almost more than 80% of students get placed. 7th sem students become eligible for campus placements. Placements start from December ( for 7th sem students) and continue up to May or June (8th sem). Placement goes phase by phase like in the first phase (from December) IT, Management, and consultancy companies come. From the second phase, core companies start coming. then up to the third phase, all types of companies come and maximum students get placed. The highest package (in 2021 ) is Rs 48.30 lakh ( by a foreign company) in the CSE branch. The average package is 6LPA - 7LPA. Particularly in mining engineering, there is also good placements more than 90%.
Fees and Financial Aid
For different family incomes and categories, the fee structure is different. We can see the fee structure on the college website. There are many scholarships depending on category, course, and family income. Like MCM Scholarship, National Scholarship, etc. Many firms or companies also provide scholarships. I got a job in a private company that is affiliated with Mining Engineering.
Campus Life
College life is very cool and there are lots of activities to do. Good student coordination. Many different types of clubs and good infrastructure. WiFi (in hostels and library), LAN cable, etc. India's largest library is also in IIT Dhanbad. Lots of books and journals are there. But for some courses, there is less no. of books. Classrooms are also good with all the facilities but No AC. There are lots of opportunities in sports, tech. clubs. Tournaments between different IITs. Some social activities are done by students like NGOs, cultural and tech events for nearby poor students who don't have money to go to schools. Blood donation camps held from time to time.
