Remarks
As the results of NCHMCT-JEE came out, I was excited as I had scored good marks. During the counselling process, I filled 3 colleges including IHM, Pusa, IHM, Mumbai and IHM Bengaluru. I got selected for IHM Pusa due to the merit list and my OBC quota. There's a minimum marks requirement of 50% in 12th boards and the top 250 students who scored ranks in NCHMCT-JEE are taken for IHM Pusa. And you can apply for NCHMCT-JEE till the age of 24. The admission process was quite smooth and required quite a few documents including affidavits of anti-ragging and punctuality.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had quite an interest in food and beverages, that's why I chose this course and the teachers here are really good, among the best of the best in the country. Most of the HoDs are PhD holders and have achieved a lot in their careers. The written term end exams were easy enough but the practicals were the ones which students had to work hard for. Although considered an easy course the practicals might be the hardest part about it and it allows you to learn and excel in your chosen stream.
Internships Opportunities
There is a whole semester dedicated to the internships. And in the second year of the course, you have to go for an internship. Most of the hotels around Delhi came to offer us internship and many of our students did go to different cities for an internship too. As an intern, you learn about the day to day activities that go on in a hotel and how to manage numerous tasks at hand. Although internships are tiresome they just might become one of the best experience you had in your life. You will learn more about life and your career ahead during the internship and will make sure what path you want to choose in the future.
Placement Experience
Students in the final year are eligible to sit in the placements and placement drive start from September which is after midterms of the 5th semester. Around 35-40 companies come every year to offer placements and avg package is around 3 lakhs per annum. Around 95% of the students had a job in hand before the final term exams and most of the students were eager to join the industry. My personal plans are to work for a while and then go for higher studies with a bit of experience with me.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure was simple enough as we had to pay for every term and the fees were around 60,000 for each semester (+20,000 hostel fee, in case you choose to stay in the hostel) and yes the fees did get hiked after 2 years. During our final year, around 40-50 companies came to offer us jobs and almost everyone had a job in hand before the final exams.
Campus Life
The campus is small and the fests are few. The library may look small but had good enough knowledgeable books to go through. Sports activities were few and had good opportunities for students. There were many groups and clubs to learn and interact with seniors.
