Remarks
Nirma University is a well-reputed university for various programs. BTech is one of them which is offered by the Institute of Technology, Nirma University. There are various departments in BTech here namely, the Department of CSE, EE, ECE, ICE, Chemical and Civil Engineering. And all of them have shown brilliance in teaching. The admission process here starts in April. Applications are to be submitted in April and May(deadline in May). The counselling rounds start the next month and with July coming they are over and admission is given to selected candidates. Here 50% seats are for JEE appeared students, 35% for ACPC students and left for NRIs and Gulf quota. Chemical and IC branches have 68 intakes while computer science has 270 and others have 135 each. When I compared this college with another private college of the same reputation, I found it to be more economical and with good alumni background. There is an official Nirma University website where detail is available.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have taken admission in Electrical Engineering. I found this to be interdisciplinary and in trend. Today most of the countries are going electric in the automobiles field, India itself has great scope for the largest EV market. Also today Indian railways have gone electric for most of their part. Hence no doubt this branch has a great scope coming ahead. The student-faculty ratio is quite good here which is around 20:1. Most of the faculties are PhD holders whereas those who are not, are undergoing PhD in the same institute. And no doubts about their excel in their respective domains. There are exams, held every 40-45 days consisting of the class test, sessional and semester-end exams.
Internships Opportunities
College does offer internship opportunities to students. Only a few companies are visiting the college for the same. In the Electrical department generally, Ford and Reliance offer internships to 2-3 students each. Ford offers a non-stipend internship whereas Reliance offers a PPO. Other than this there are several companies like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley which offer non-core internships which are open to all branches. And also there are various IT companies which offer internships open to students of all branches i.e. anyone can apply in them.
Placement Experience
Campus placements, though not excellent but are above average. In general highest package had been around 45 lakhs per annum(Atlassian) for a CSE student. And for electrical department it is around 8-9 lakhs(core-HUL) and 15 lakhs(non core). The average package for the Electrical department is around 3-4 lakhs. But above all, there is a good number of companies visiting the college for placements. In general placements in the electrical department is around 60%.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure of the course is the same as any other private institute of the same reputation and it may even be more economical than some. In general, the is a hike in the fee structure of around 10k every year. Scholarships are available from the college side for various quota. There is a merit-based scholarship for needy students whose family income is low. Then there is a scholarship for meritorious students too as in different quota.
Campus Life
Campus Life at Nirma University is very bright and entertaining. There are several tech and nontech clubs. Tech clubs involve ROBOCON, SAE Baja, arrow while non-tech clubs mainly have RCNI and ISTE and along with them, there are other departmental clubs too and various other small clubs. Every club frequently organizes various events. The infrastructure and campus are quite beautiful, being lush green. There is cricket and a football ground. There are basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. Also a small club for indoor games. There are libraries in every institute of the university with a huge number of books. Classrooms are well equipped with modern teaching methodologies with projectors, green boards and ACs in almost every class. Labs are equipped with almost all possible amenities.
