Remarks

NIT Jsr is situated in a very tranquil ambiance in the otherwise industrial city of Jamshedpur(TATA). The best part about the college is its newly constructed humongous academic building and also highly spacious hostel and mess. There are very few colleges in India that provide the facility of single occupancy from the 2nd year itself. Well, NIT Jsr is one of them. Also, the PNM mall, which is around 3 KM from the college is the best chill place for the weekends. The admission takes place through the Josaa Counselling after the JEE advanced results on the basis of JEE Mains rank in the month of July-August. I preferred this college over the others because of its low fees and decent placements in the core companies. Also, the highly renowned technical teams of the college, like Phoenix, Drift, Daksh are the center of attraction for any guy interested in automobiles. While choosing this college, I used collegedunia.com to get all the facts regarding the placement stats and other stuff.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Mechanical engineering over ECE which I was getting in BIT Mesra, because of my high interest in machines, particularly automobiles. The technical teams give you an opportunity to get an in-hand experience of actually manufacturing a vehicle and also learning the various associated software like CAD, CFD, etc. The faculty: student ratio in the college is also quite decent. However, you won't need to approach them often because of ever ready to help seniors, who will clear most of your doubts. All the faculty members are Ph.D. from NITs or IITs and have decent teaching experience. Some of the professors are just excellent. But like every college, there are a few whose methods are boring and are not up to the mark. One doesn't need to worry about CGPA as most of the professors are kind enough to give decent marks. The academic load is very low compared to other colleges. And it gives you the liberty to pursue your hobbies or brush up on non-academic skills.

Internships Opportunities

4

The institute allows you to sit for both on-campus and off-campus internships during the 3rd year of your degree. Most of the companies which come for internships are actually the ones that come for placements as well. Amazon, Yodlee, Accolite, MAQ, Belzabar are some of the regular and reputed companies that visit our institute. The core companies offer around INR 10000 per month of your internship period. However, the non-core companies pay more. In the 2-3 months of your internship period, you will be required to work with the company on a project, and based on your performance, you can even get a PPO (pre-placement offer), in which case you will have a job for yourself in the third year itself and you will be able to enjoy the 4th year of your college while maintaining a decent CGPA. However, you don't get an on-campus internship in your second year. And at the end, if you fail to get an internship you can always opt for an off-campus internship although the competition is high.

Placement Experience

4

The campus placement starts from the 4th year or the 7th semester itself. The Placements of the college is decent for both non-core and core. For non-core, the top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Paytm, Samsung, One Plus, and a lot more. For core, the top recruiters include Tata Steel, Bajaj, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Vedanta, and a lot more. In total, the no. of companies who visited the college in the year 2021 was around 85 and the no. of offers made was above 400 despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The highest placement was INR 30 Lakhs given to 10 students and the average was around INR 12 Lakhs. The percentage of students placed was somewhere around 83%. If no campus placement is offered, which is a very unlikely case, you can either go for higher studies like M.Tech, MBA or exams like GATE, IES, CAT, etc. for higher studies and government jobs. You can even make use of your NITian tag to open a coaching institute of yours.

Fees and Financial Aid

The complete fee for the 4 years B. Tech degree is 8,44,000 without any scholarship. However, there is a provision for fee remission. Without fee remission, the fee for the complete 4 years is 8,44,000. After fee remission, it reduces to 3,44,000 or 5,10,644 based on whether your family income of below 1,00,000 or below 5,00,000. To avail scholarship, you will have to submit an income certificate and a few affidavits. And you will easily be able to avail it, although the process takes a few months. Also, there is a branch of SBI situated on the campus of NIT Jamshedpur, and one can easily get an education loan. If you want to earn while studying, you can give tuitions to school students in the area nearby. I cracked a freelancing job with a JEE educator, teaching on Unacademy and YouTube, in my 1st semester itself, which pays me a stipend of around 4000 per month. So, if you have the skill and you keep your eyes open, you will surely get opportunities.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fests of NIT Jsr include the Ojass ( annual techno-management fest of NIT Jamshedpur), Culfest (the annual cultural festival of the college), TECHNICA (the annual national symposium fest of Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), COGNITIO (the annual festival of Mechanical Engineering Department), VIDHAAN, (the annual branch fest of Civil engineering department), and a lot more. They all are conducted in different months throughout the year. The Central Library contains about 80,000 books of all genres, both academic and non-academic. The new academic building inaugurated in 2020 has highly spacious classrooms and contains all the modern teaching equipment you can wonder The campus has enough sports equipment and separate grounds for each of the sports, though we don't have a swimming pool. The student council run by the students themselves will always stand by your side in any academic, non-academic, or administrative troubles you get into.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The 32000 per year fee includes the mess fee as well. In the first year, you will have double occupancy. From the second year, you will be allotted single rooms. Each room is provided with a cupboard, study table, and a balcony. The meal quality of the mess is also decent and very hygienic. Each mess has a different menu. You will get food 4 times a day- breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. The breakfast mostly consists of bread(4 pcs.)/ stuffed paratha(2 pcs.), butter/ jam, milk, and banana(1 pc)/egg(1 )pc, In the lunch, you will be served chapati, fried rice, dal, green/mix veg, papad, achar, raita/curd, and salad. Also, you can have non-veg instead of veg. In the snacks, we get bhelpuri, Maggi, veg roll, samosa, etc. on different days. The dinner includes different types of chapatis and vegetables each day. You can visit the NIT Jsr website to get the complete mess menu. The registration process for the hostel is not much time taking. Living in a hostel is a must normally.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum exam ready for students of mechanical engineering it focuses on industrial level exposure and for other competitive exams like gate and IES with good faculty who teaches almost all concepts. There are labs for each subject in which we get real world application knowledge. Also course is updated regularly as per the requirement of industry . The course can we improved by making course more practical rather than a writing all things on practical it should include project for students. Frequency of exam is that in every 15 days there is a exam with moderate to difficult level.

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.
