Remarks

Jec was a well-known institute mainly for computer science and electrical engineering courses. Its campus is big and situated in one of a very civilized city in Assam. The admission was based on the rank from the CEE exam held in Assam. If you have gotten a good rank in the CEE exam, then I will definitely prefer you to select JEC.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose B Tech Electrical engineering in JEC as its placement is very good in Assam and its electrical department is one of the best in Assam. Teachers have also the basic to core knowledge of their subjects and they communicate in a very easy way so there should not be any doubt while attending their lectures. There is a total of 4 examinations in 6 months, 3 CIE(internal exams), and an end sem examination taken by ASTU.

Internships Opportunities

3

Jec provides internships at companies like Tea estates and Small psu companies. The internship will be a short term internship or a long-term internship. Students learn more about the companies and what an engineer has to do in a company.

Placement Experience

4

The placement in JEC is said to be good as only some PSUs like bedanta etc and oil sectors like Bharat petroleum come for the placement. Average of 10 to 15 lakhs and highest of 25 lakhs per year. From the 3rd year i.e 5th semester, the students become eligible for campus placement, and maximum the OBCs and Caste are widely selected for placement if their marks are static and average. In general, there is more competition so students should at least secure 8 to 9 pointer in their yearly examination for jobs. For me, I am not focusing on on-campus placement so after completing my degree, i would go to Bangalore for doing some Computer courses for my dream to become a game designer at graphic designing.

Fees and Financial Aid

Due to the Corona outbreak, the fees of the 2020 batch were almost 0 Rs, as issued by the Government of Assam, otherwise, it costs around 1200 per year and there are so many scholarships for financial support to those students with needs.

Campus Life

5

The life of a JEC student is pretty sorted. The campus is good so students can easily hang out with their friends in a very big private space of their own. There are 10 hostels, 8 for boys and 2 for girls. There are many social clubs and websites of the student union mainly run by the senior batch of students. There is intel hostel competition and inter batch competition for students and also NCC.

Hostel Facilities

5

I currently stay in one of the best hostels in JEC, hostel 8 also known as Octave. There are four blocks for Assam-type hostels and hostel 5 is a building. The meal is very good in a hostel, we get 3 days Chicken, 2 days Veg, remaining days we get egg and fish. Mess check is also run by the 2nd year students so there should not be any problem. The hostel affiliation starts at the starting of your admission.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

Placement Experience:

Placements start from 7th semester (4th Year). Companies like Amazon, Legato, TCS, Synopsis, etc. visit for on campus placements. We have a very good placement ratio and average package. For CSE, the average package was 13 LPA and 92% students were placed. While for ECE, the average package was 8 LPA and 66% students were placed. I'm planning on gaining work experience for 2 years after my B.Tech and then pursue MS Or M.Tech from abroad.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
