Remarks
IMI is good in terms of academics, but it needs to buck up on other areas like placements and extra curricular to be able to really justify all the top ratings that it keeps featuring on.
Entrance Preview
Entrance Exam - CAT, I got 89%, IMI was the best offer I got and it was in Delhi (my hometown). Other offers I got were from we school etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course was PGDMHR, which is a core HR course. The Course curriculum was fairly decent, there were an array of electives available like Strategic HRM, Diversity, HR Consulting, Talent Management etc. I think there were not enough courses related to psychology.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, there is a 2 month summer internship. Generally the stipend varies from 10 k to 50 k with most students getting between 10-15 k. The experience is good, it really depends on the kind of company you get and how seriously they take you as an intern.
Placement Experience
The Placements are not good at all at IMI, even though there are so many claims in the media about the same. For Marketing not a single reputed FMCG comes for placement, it is so hard to place students in Finance and Ops. For HR still there is a better scene but no good companies and companies offer packages like 6 lack only.
College Events
IMI has a very strong Student Council which maintains the quality of the events that we used to organize. There use to be one management conclave and one cultural fest every year. But the cultural fest was not able to attract students from other premier B School other than the ones in Delhi.
Fee Structure And Facilities
IMI is very expensive for the kind of placements we got. The fees for us was around 14 lack including hostel which has increased 17-18 lack now, which I find way too high. This is high especially as compared to B Schooled like K J Somiaya and We School.
Fees and Financial Aid
There was a scholarship for the students who topped the calls (Top three students according to CGPA). I am not aware on the amount of money but they used to receive a certain discount in their fees.
Campus Life
Gender Ratio for the HR batch was really bad. In a class of 60, 50 were girls. For Marketing the gender ratio must be 35 (girls) to 65. Diversity was not great, mostly north Indian students. Extracurricular was not good at all, and no encouragement for sports or debates or anything.
Hostel Facilities
IMI was initially not a full boarding college. I was a day scholar. Hostel rooms are average and mess food is pretty bad. hostel rooms were sharing (mostly 2 people on one room) and the rooms were pretty small. The hostel fees was around 2 lack including mess food.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni is mostly non existent for IMI. They have recently woken up tot he fact that they need to engage their alumni and hence efforts have started only very recently.
Exam Structure
Academics is taken very seriously at IMI. There were frequent labs (psychology) that went on till 6-8 hours. We used to feel like we are constantly giving exams since we had trimesters- so exams thrice a year and there used to be mid semesters also.
Faculty
The Faculty is one of the best parts about IMI, at least till the time I passed out. For e.g. for courses like HR Consulting we had working professionals teaching different parts of the course to really give us a flavor of how it is done in the corporate world rather than any book knowledge. Some faculty members were not even half decent and use to just waste our time.
