Remarks

Fees issue I felt very bad. One point of time, I have been witnessed, college is not not allowing to write exam because of fees issue. Withheld the results until fees is remitted. Placement activities were quite good and got good chance of participating inter-collegiate events. I myself won few prizes from Kochi based events.

Entrance Preview

I took LET (Lateral Entry Test) and scored 376 rank. We checked the enrollment process from newspaper and traveled to LBS Trivandrum for choosing the course. It was confusion time initially, because I wanted to choose a Govt college or Govt fees available college from Kannur itself, but there was no seats available. Finally I have few options like Munnar Engineering college, IHRD College of Engineering Poonjar, Vimal Jyothi Engg College etc. and few other colleges from Govt Self financing college sector. By keeping an unstable mind, I had chosen IHRD College of Engineering Poonjar, due to its Govt affiliation.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course curriculum was good because it's affiliated to Cochin University. Syllabus was little advanced, but not having much research opportunities unless put explicit interests. We had few electives related to Information Retrieval and Digital System Design etc, which were promising course for us.

Internships Opportunities

Internship was not possible that time. Now we have M-Tech courses attached, so mostly teaching internship would be available.

Placement Experience

3

College conducted one event of placement, where HCL came to our campus for recruitment and around 5 to 6 people got short listed and 1 student from our college. Other than that we have a college consortium, through which we could connect with other college placements like Model Engineering College, Munnar Engineering college, College of Engineering Kidangoor etc.

College Events

3

Onam was celebrated very well from start. We hosted ONYX event at Mamman mappila hall. Close to 5000 students were part of this inter collegiate technical event. We also used to celebrate regional festivals like Navarathri, Teacher's birthday, farewell. Also arrange few technical seminars as part of Computer Science Department.

Fee Structure And Facilities

There was some confusion in fee structure. We were told, it will be Govt announced fees, because it was a Govt running college. 4000 Rs Tuition fee + 1000 Rs Caution Deposit + etc. Close 6300 Rs as Semester fees and few exam related fees. Later on it has been told to pay 18000 Rs as tuition fees and it was really painful for us to find the funds from family and banks through educational loan.

Fees and Financial Aid

As far as I know, college was not providing any direct scholarship to students. SC/ST students were getting scholarship from SC departments. Otherwise KVY scholarship and any other central/state level scholarship were possible to get for these students. But information was not much reaching to students that days except from newspapers.

Campus Life

3

We were having very less number of students that time, due to the recent issues with IHRD colleges due to its disciplinary actions against College fees structure. (Rajani S Anand incident connected to IHRD college). In my class ladies were more than boys. Otherwise overall equal gender ration is maintained.

Hostel Facilities

3

That time, we do not have any hostel facilities from college. But there private hostels named Hill View for boys and a ladies hostel near College. Also there were enough PG facilities nearby and far from College. Also private rooms were available very near to college. I stayed in a 3 people sharing PG room. We have to pay 1500 Rs initially for food and room rent and later on it has been increased to 1650 Rs.

Alumni/Alumna

We have a big alumni network. One of 2 events happened recently. Unfortunately I couldn't make a time for being part of that events. I used to get emails from my juniors about making some Web Apps for the college. I replied and encouraged them to go in right direction.

Exam Structure

We have Series exam for awarding internal marks and external exams which is as per University calendar. Series exams were mostly within the syllabus, but external exams mostly tight bounded. Labs were quite easy and useful. I enjoyed the practical labs and exams very much throughout my tenure.

Admission

After the enrollment from LBS, we got the information that we have to join the College in 2 to 3 days time, because class is already started. We went to Kottayam/Poonjar and in the bus stand itself we found the college campus and moved to office, where we met office staffs, who helped us to get a hostel/PG facilities and went ahead with admission process. We met Principal, Office Superintendent etc.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculties where guess lecturers when we were enrolled. They were prepared well for the class. But not having enough experience for sharing an end to end relevance of the subject. Some of the teachers were too good in their domain with full exposure of subject and was very much disciplined.
