Remarks
I chose SRM because of its 100% placement guarantee and good infrastructure which I had checked on the website. One of my seniors was studying there and he appreciated the college saying that there are many good clubs, events and opportunities to help in growth and development. The campus was very promising with students from all parts of India and a huge number of staff and students. I also liked the anti ragging policies which were mentioned in the brochure. I chose CSE because it is the most popular field and I was interested in coding since school days.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is good, we are taught various computer related courses and some extra courses as well. Though I don't see the point of studying biology, civil and mechanical and constitution. The faculty are good they are mostly well versed in their subject, however most of them are from Tamil Nadu, so initially I had problems in getting comfortable with the accent, but now it doesn't affect me. The best faculty that I have encountered were Ganpati Subramanium sir, who taught me maths in first semester. He is a very senior faculty with deep knowledge and good communication skills.
Placement Experience
The placement is good in our college. The average package being around 3-4 lakh and the highest package was around 41lpa. The companies that visit are Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL etc. The highest package was offered by Microsoft followed by Udaan and Barclays. For placements, students are trained since first year in aptitude, resume building, algorithms and other technical skills. There are many entrepreneurship clubs as well.
College Events
The college has two major events Aarush and Milan both of which are organised on grand scale with special guests. Last year Suresh Raina, Arjun Kanungo, Abishek Upmanyu, Anish Mathew, Sapan Verma, Divine and Vidya Vox came in the two events. The events are really fun to attend with musical nights, comedy nights, workshops and competitions. Aarush is a technical festival while Milan is the cultural festival in which almost everyone on campus participates. The campus life is really good with a lot of clubs and teams in both technical and non-technical domains.
Campus Life
The campus is very spacious, clean and beautiful. The roads are wide and spacious and it has a good ambience. The college has separate buildings for all departments with AC classrooms, lift facilities and canteens on every alternate floor. There are sports facilities for basketball, badminton and football and gym is there in both girls and boys hostel. WiFi is available in all buildings and hostels though it is mostly very slow during the evening hours when everyone is using it. The labs are well- built with computer labs having systems for each student and physics and electronics lab having equipments for groups of 2-3. However the lab assistants are very incompetent and mostly have little knowledge about the subject.
Hostel Facilities
Yes I have opted for hostel. There are 19 boys hostel and 6 girls hostels in the campus. Both are available in 2-6 sharing with both attached and non attached washrooms, AC and non-AC rooms. The rooms are cleaned everyday and the infrastructure is really good, with beds, tables, spacious cupboards and clean washroom. The in time for girls hostel is 7:30 while for boys it is 9:30. The worst aspect of hostel is the quality of food. Most of the people prefer to eat outside on most days due to the subpar quality of food served in the hostel. The fee of hostel ranges from 70000-270000 depending on type of room, which is quite expensive compared to the facilities offered. So most students prefer to stay to stay in apartments such as estancia and abode which are close to the college. The rooms are available in 6 sharing and is mostly cheaper and better than hostel.
