Entrance Preview

AIEEE 2009 B.Arch (Paper II) 218 the selection process is pretty straightforward. You register for CCB counselling after AIEEE score is out. (Process has changed a lot over the years)Extremely competitive to get into.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum in general covers a wide variety of subjects. From basics such as Design and Building construction to civil engineering based topics such as structures and surveying. There are four semester long courses known as Seminar where each student has to pick a topic and present a paper on it. The final year is dedicated to thesis and research. There are few elective options in the final year, but in general student has to pretty much study everything in the curriculum. This is not rigid, but just a professional requirement.

Internships Opportunities

In Architecture, no companies come to campus to recruit for internships. This is a worldwide phenomenon. Students have to apply for internships on their own. Internships are pretty easy to seal when you have SPA-B on your resume/portfolio. General stipend for internships abroad is on the higher side (a few SPA-B students seal them every year). Other offices in Delhi pay well. Overall SPA-B do internships at tier-1 architecture firms in India so the stipend is as per.

Placement Experience

4

Campus placement is almost nil. But again in architecture this is not how usual placement happens. Few NITs and IITs have campus placements because T&P cell has already been established. But this is not much of an issue as SPA alumni are easily accepted into architecture firms upon application, in most cases, preferred.

College Events

4

SPA-B has an internal event called synergy, I am not sure if they still have that. It is a cultural event with some mix of technical events. Apart from that people celebrate all major Indian holidays.SPA-B is also proactive when it comes to participation in zonal and annual NASA (National Association for Students in Architecture).

Fee Structure And Facilities

This is one the cheapest architecture colleges in India. Being an INI (Institute of National Importance) and directly funded by MHRD, students find it financially comfortable to study here. You can check out the latest yearly fee structure on the website.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. They have merit and merit-cum-means based scholarships (A total of nine, numbers must have changed) for students. No loan facility is available as nobody needs one.

Campus Life

4.5

Gender ratio is almost 1:1 for each and every batch, even faculty. Being a national level government college, students come from every corner of the country to study here. Nobody will feel exclusive or 'left out' here. There are multiple cultural societies, with most of them directly or indirectly linked to art and design.Students do interesting activities such as wall mural painting, graffiti, art installations etc.Numerous workshops are conducted throughout the year.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel rooms are quite comfortable. They are twin sharing with attached balcony and in-built wardrobes. Each floor has community bathrooms (sharing basis)Overall hostel complex being newly constructed is comfortable and has a soothing environment. For mess food, I am clueless. Back in my days, food was okayish on some days and bad on most. But this is the story of a majority of government institutes in India.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is pretty raw at this point of time as the college was established in the year 2008. Being a new institute it will take some time to form a strong alumni network. Senior students are very helpful though and a lot of jobs and internships can be sealed through recommendation.

Exam Structure

My information might be dated, but during my time we used to have 2 minor exams (1 hour exams conducted for all courses, Minor-1 and Minor-2) over a period of 3 days. (Yes, back to back exams on one particular day)Then we had semester exams (theory) followed by Viva-Voce. Design juries happen throughout the semester.Overall the curriculum has high engagement and equal downtime. On some days you can chill and have fun, whereas during Design assignments you have to work for days, to a point that you will not have any sense of day or night. After design juries, sighting sleep deprived students lying on the floor is common.

Faculty

4.5

We have a strong ties with faculties from SPA Delhi, CEPT, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee because most of SPAB's faculty have studied or taught at these institutes, or have been batch mates with current faculty of these premier universities.More details can be found at SPA-B's website.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It includes Mathematics as well as Drawing which is easy for me to study. While faculties explain anything or have conversation. They say, "You will have to face these things. You have to talk like this. You should behave like this. COA( Council of architecture) should reduce 5yrs course to 4yrs course or 5yrs as integrated(March). Easy for 1st semester as it cover lesser syllabus. In 2nd semester as Year ends, Whole syllabus comes in examination.

The curriculum of this course is quite good. We get to learn about each aspect related to field of architecture. But somehow it feels like outdated. It should be renewed according to the new technologies which have evolved in the current industry. Other wise the curriculum focuses on quality education

Course Curriculum Overview:

The Bachelor of Architecture in my college is pretty fine as it's a 5 year course and it has so much to learn. The faculty is also good and experienced which helps a student to learn from them as the architecture is all about building design and construction so there are plenty of subjects to cover in 5 year to know about designing a building. Tge professor's create ppt and all to teach the students and practical to know more about a building site visits to learn practical knowledge and study tour to learn about old and new architecture The college study tour is pretty good in architecture they take you to different places in India which a student enjoys and learns too
