Remarks
The 4 years I spent in MNIT Jaipur were the best years of my life till now. The college offers almost everything a student in the developing stage of his career would look for. I'd still request the administration to improve some of the things, like the back office which will make it easier for students to deal with scholarships, documentation etc. The Student affairs office is a mess, as of now a little improvement in the Literary society would also help the students learn more.
Entrance Preview
I took AIEEE. My AIR was 2807. At this rank I had the choice of getting into almost any branch offered in any of the top NITs in the country. I chose MNIT Jaipur because of three reasons. 1. The location. Not only was it my hometown, it was also one of the most centrally located NITs in the country attracting few of the best companies just because of its location.2. The placements. MNIT has a stellar placement record for the previous batches. 3. Popularity. Even as MREC, it was one of the best known colleges in Rajasthan, not to mention it was constantly ranked in one of the top 5 NITs every year by most publications.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure in MNIT is not quite research oriented. In most colleges in India, the curriculum is designed keeping in mind that the students will get jobs once they graduate and this eventually drives more students to opt for placements over research. The faculty in the college is well qualified and knowledgeable. The infrastructure, though excellent, could have been better.
Internships Opportunities
Around 5-8 companies come for internships every year in the campus. But mostly the name MNIT on your resume attracts the attention of every company outside too. Getting an internship isn't a difficult task. Specially if you're eligible for DAAD Scholarships which takes 5-8 students of MNIT every year for internships in Germany.
Placement Experience
100% placements with an average package of 4+ LPA is reached every year. If you're in tier 1 branches like ECE or CSE, you can expect a better package if there's nothing limiting in your profile. Major recruiters like Facebook, Adobe, Qualcom, Microsoft, C. Dot, Oracle, PSUs like IOCL, HMEL, BPCL, HPCL and startups like Snapdeal etc. visit the campus every year and take a good number of students. There are many students who choose to opt out of placements and go for exams like UPSC and banking services and the results reflect that quite well.
College Events
MNIT hosts two-three major festivals every year. The flagship cult fest being Blitzschlag and tech fest being Neuron. In both the fests, the attendance crosses a thousand on an average every day. Although the festivals largely depend on how the organizing committee performed that year, since it is almost fully a student initiative.
Fees and Financial Aid
The CBSE AIEEE scholarships for meritorius students, the 50 and 100% tuition fee waiver for top 20 students in college were the two scholarships I had availed. Being a government institute, it doesn't charge any tuition fee to students from reserved categories and to girl students. There's also the DAAD scholarship for internships in third year.
Campus Life
MNIT has one of the best gender ratios across all NITs in the country. Although it is a bit skewed towards CSE/ECE/IT branches and quite less in Mech/Electrical. The college has its own robotics team, 'ZINE', that has participated in Robocon and won in many techfests too. For sports, there are teams for almost every sport and the Badminton, power lifting, basketball and cricket teams of the college have won many Inter-NIT competitions. There are small societies for different activities like Literary, SPIC MACAY, Sports, Robotics etc. that you can register in and add value to your profile.
Hostel Facilities
I was a day scholar my review of hostels is limited to the fact the I didn't particularly like the mess food, but comparing to some of the other messes I have eaten in, I'd rate it 6/10. The rooms are good for single occupancy the new hostels are redefining the whole experience.
Alumni/Alumna
The college just celebrated its 50th anniversary and the celebration was attended by hundreds of esteemed alumni. The alumni society of of MNIT is quite active and helps in organising big events like AIAMB (A basketball tournament) and many others and have been instrumental in the placements too the alumni network of the college is well stretched with its reach in the management of many companies and there are many alumni with their own companies too. For the college seniors, there is no such thing as ragging, but a healthy interaction and some fun banter. Most seniors are quite cooperative and help you out whenever you need. Even for students who want to go for their own startups, the alumni network and the college ED cell helps a lot.
