Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was a bit hard. We had to appear separately for theory and practicals. The course consisted of theory and field and laboratory work. We also had to visit small and large animal clinics so that we can have a deeper insight into the challenges of the practical world.
Placement Experience
There are paid internship opportunities available to the students. We had to intern at zoos, dairy plants and rural health centres. The stipend for such internships was around 6,000 rupees a month. Some pharma companies came for interviewing students after the completion of our course.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is reasonable. The fee is low as compared to other colleges and it provides optimum facilities at such a low cost. I had to pay around 19,000 a year for 4 years. Hostel charges had to be paid separately.
Campus Life
The infrastructure of our college is well built and maintained. It has all the modern amenities including the ones for e-learning. There are 10 modern lecture halls and 2 seminar halls with audiovisual facilities. There is an internet kiosk where 20 students can browse together. Our college focusses on the all-round development of its students. Therefore emphasis is laid on sports as well. There is an open ground where sports like cricket, football, hockey and athletics are played.
Hostel Facilities
There is a hostel near our college which saves the commuting time. The hostel has 9 blocks and can accommodate up to 750 students. There are separate hostel and mess for boys and girls. All the basic modern facilities like modular kitchen, reading room, indoor stadium, solar water heaters etc are available.
Admission
The admission for an undergraduate degree is based on merit. Madras Veterinary College (MVC) takes into account the marks scored by a student in class 12. Based upon merit the candidates are shortlisted. The shortlisted ones have to fill an application form and submit the copies of required documents along with the application fee which has to be paid either through card or net banking.
Faculty
The teacher-student ratio was 1:5 which is quite good. Many of the teachers possessed a doctoral degree and some of them were trained in national and international laboratories. They had several years of experience and their teaching methods made learning easy for us.
